Does anyone have any good tips for getting mud off your retriever's paws? Boomer goes outside a lot and our kitchen looks like a scene from Marley and me. The last time he went out tonight, it took me half an hour to get the mud off him (let alone the floor).

In the Spring and Fall I will sometimes have a shallow storage box full of water on the porch to give the boys a foot bath on really bad days. You still end up having to towel off the paws but it does cut down on the mess a bit.

I run Bama thru the house to the shower and hose him down with the hand sprayer. Then take the damp towel and wipe the floor. The other pups just need their paws swiped with the same towel. Bama gets mud from belly to toes just going outside to go potty. Dont know how he does it.

When mine get muddy especially spring and fall :yuck: I get a bucket of warm water and wash each foot off and then towel dry. Sometimes the bucket is so full of muddy water I don't dare dump it down my sink! Not fun to do the bucket thing but it does help my floors

Use a plastic dishwashing pan tub for the feet....it's nice and small and you dip the two front and then the two back paws. For smaller clean ups, I use a sprayer filled with diluted dog shampoo, spray on and wipe with a wet bar towel.

Towels and lots of them....
I wipe as they come in and also spread several of them on the floor at the entry...

My MIL uses this 'cup-like' thing called a pawplunger....she loves it...

But I dont think it would be too practical with more then one dog...

Now I hope this comes out right...

We trim all 4 paws on all 4 dogs!! Now we don't eliminate their hair because obviously we recognize that its there for a reason.

But he take the long hair down to the clipper blade length on the hind between the hock and the large pad, and on the front from the thumb pad to the other pads. Then we trim back the hair coming from inside the pads and around the nails.

The two dogs most prone to running through the mud first were trimmed a bit closer than the 2 who tend to stay away from the muddy spots.

Overall once we trim them, even if its really bad mud, it minimizes the wipe off time. And we have the extra water bowl outside that we can dip their paws in during the really bad days.

I usually just leave them in the xpen in the mudroom till they are cleaned off again. I have gifted dogs who manage to get dirt and mud everywhere (back, tail, neck....). For good measure they drag each other around:doh:

And it does help to keep the paws trimmed (guess what I'm doing this weekend:D)

I never tried the Mud Buster and will have to purchase one of those. I have used Cowboy Magic Greenspot remover spray that does a pretty good job of cleaning the paws. If it is really bad I end up squirting them down with the water hose and use microfiber towels to dry their paws and undersides down.

Scott gets a very quick hose down of legs, feet and belly using a spray head on a garden hose on the outside (cold) tap. No shampoo. The mud is usually on his top coat, so I rarely need to saturate him to get the mud off. I wouldn't say he enjoys it, but he tolerates it, and knows the routine - takes about 1 minute. Then a belly rub, legs, and paws dried off with a towel. So he's clean but damp when he comes inside.

Look at this post. Was from only a few days ago. Same question asked

I was recently trying to minimise the muddy paws from quick trips into the garden and back.
I did some Googling and found people raving about these chenille rugs.
So I bought one!
I have to say I am quite impressed.

In this photo Teddy is laying on it. So helps that they are comfy too. But I have really noticed the difference. His paws probably make contact with it 3 times each before he walks off of it. It seems to soak up and take off the worst of the wetness from his paws. So we don’t get major muddy paw marks on the floor now.
