Noah's too darn smart for the Collar Grab game. I can't ever seem to have treats hidden. As soon as I grab his collar, he's not pushing it to me like predicted, instead, he's immediately pulling to the other hand to get a treat. We still need to work on it more.
Look at your placement of reward compared to that in the video- that can make a big difference in dogs that push vs pull.

Thank you for your feedback. I have watched it many times, and he knows that treats are in my right pocket, as soon as I grab his collar, even before my hand goes to the treat, he's pulling to the pocket.

I've also tried holding treats in my hand so that I don't have to go into the pocket and he's laser focused on the hand holding the treat. I do put the treat to my eyes and then reward.

I've even tried just keeping treats in my pocket and doing random, unexpected sessions, where he doesn't see me "prepping" for a session.

I'm not an expert at this: two tips: When you feed the treat/toy - deliver it close to the arm grabbing. (as in, literally touching your arm that does the grab). If we grab but then feed in an opposite direction, the dogs will tend towards lunging to where the reward comes from. If the reward comes from your arm (well, not from it...your pocket or other hand, but if it's always delivered at your arm), then you see dogs who will "stick" to that spot more. Multiple treats, one after the other, tend to get more duration than if we feed just one treat (that gets more bouncing).

Also try quickly progressing to the stage where you are slowly moving away and your dog is seeking out your hand.

These things, combined with the "its yer choice" can help cement the behavior - at that point, the dogs understand that collar pressure = reward and they start pushing to your hand, and even if you bring out the treat, they understand they have to keep that touch for the treat to be delivered (not jumping towards it).

Thank you for taking time to share your tips, I will give that a try! He's doing great with It's Yer Choice, both with treats and favorite toys!

I'm watching Game day 3: restrained recall.
Bella is taking a nap, so I'll wait to practice later but I'm thinking she will not have a lot of trouble with this as recall has been the one skill that I've practiced a lot! Plus, we do puppy gundog training with Bella and recall is the number 1 skill we practice in class.

A wrap up from the first two game days. So far she is less bitey towards me when I reach my hands out to her, a result of collar grab game 1. Game 2 is going to be a work in progress and one hopeful result is she will leave cat poo alone! *gross* *barf* she loves cat poo and I'm hoping she eventually learns to choose to leave it alone.

Is there a time limit on completing these? I've only watched the first one and I'm still working on the collar grab to the point that she's comfortable with it. It's harder than it looks!!

I don't want to miss out on the other three but I also don't want to rush through it.

Guest pass access is open for 6 months, according to Susan Garrett's blog :) so you should have plenty of time....

I think every time I watch the videos, there is something else that becomes clearer :)

I did join the full Recallers...I am a member of a few of her courses and never seem to have the time to capture everything as the lessons unfold, so reviewing, repeating and watching my videos over a period of time is helpful to me...and this morning playing the collar grab game seeing Faelan going into WOW Game On mode was such a great thing :) Aedan is starting to enjoy it and come into the grab while Brady is more restrained with the game...

Fun is!

I really wish I could afford to join, it's a shame that the window is only open for a short time. How often does she tend to open registration on these classes, because I probably just need to set money aside for the next time she opens it up.

I actually have a "free" check coming up in August, AFTER this registration closes. :(

I think it opens once a year. I have never enrolled before so I don't know for sure though.

Watched the 2 hour webinar from Friday night and decided to reach out to my mother to see if she'd be willing to help out with joining the full Recallers before the price goes up after midnight tomorrow night, and then re-pay her in August. Gratefully, she said yes, and we are now signed up for the full course (which according to the webinar is for a full year).

Wonder if those who are doing Recallers should start a Recaller's thread in the training area to talk about how everything is going? I'm really excited!

Great :)

I know I am still working on Game Days 1-4; I want a solid foundation and Aedan seems to have entered a fear and/or flight period so I need to take it a bit slower right now with new environments.

Noah is in that same stage. I have put together a notebook with sheet protectors of all the game day lessons. We're also still working on games 1 thru 4 right now. I think we're going to get much more out of this than my local group class, which was a lot of walking in circles, sit, down and stay and not much else.

My mom has said that about chloes group classes. I have to get my mom to find some time to watch these game day videos. My nephew really wants to do them with chloe buy my mom has to watch the videos first.

Does anyone know, if the upgrade cost on the site is in Canadian $ or USD $?

I ask, because I got this in an e-mail.
Your statement will reflect a charge from Say Yes Dog Training billed in US currency.
That could be a good thing if the cost to upgrade was Canadian, because that means that USD will be less by over $100.

Jess and I have been away at the cottage for twelve days with no internet, so just getting back into things now. I missed the midnight sign up deadline last night.
Dislike! I wonder if she'll open it back up at the full price she mentioned?
