Sorry long story... but i am wondering if anyone elses does has the same routine.

We have started to notice in the last week that Jaxson asks to go to bed in his crate for the night.

The door is always open to his crate and its down the hall in an open area at the base of the stairs. (our bedroom is on the basement btw) He will asked to go out (the door to the backyard is in our bedroom), then after 5 mins ask to come in.

If the door is open to the hall he runs to check his crate for treats. The reason he does this is we put treats in his bed for a night time surprise when we put him to bed. In the last week he will run in check his crate, no treats are there until we put him into bed, so he will run will ask to go back out and then 30 secs later ask to come in.

At first we thought this was a new game, but we caught on quick. He is asking to go to bed. So now after the check and his first time asking to go back out we get a treat and he runs to bed. He does it at around 8:30 each night and will stay there till we let him out in the morning. We can walk past, turn the lights on and make noise and he doesnt care to come out (it is covered). He is a very light sleeper durring the day, so I know he hears us, he just likes his time alone I think.

When Shotzey was a puppy I was still in high school. So I was "in bed" every night at 9pm, I'd get in bed and watch some tv for a bit then fall asleep. But he slept in my bed with me. Then after Graduation no matter where we were or what we were doing, he could be mid pee I swear, at 8:55-9pm he would stop, get up, jump up into my lap, curl up and go to sleep. Every single night. It was the cutest thing, he did it all the way up until we got Polly, then he just would want to play with her and not care about bed time lol

What a smart doggie!

Winnie sort of does this. He is my velcro dog. When I'm on the computer, he is lying next to me on his collection of pillows. When I'm up too late, he whines, sighs, and harumps. It's his way of telling me "Mom, you're up too late! Bedtime!". Unfortunately, I'm a night owl, and as he gets older he wants to go to bed later. So, usually we have a conversation about bedtime!

Yup, my Sammy definitely has his own set bed time and he does not like that no one else seems to want to go to bed at the same time. Around 9pm he's ready for bed. If I'm still awake (which I always am at 9) he'll just go in the bedroom by himself and sleep. If the bedroom door is closed, he will lay right against the door and sigh loudly to get my attention so I will walk over there, open the door for him, and let him in.

After he puts himself to bed, he will come out in the living room where I am about every 30 minutes or so. He'll come where I am, stand next to me and stare me down. Then sigh loudly and walk back to the bedroom and sleep some more. This repeats maybe 4 or 5 times. He is trying to inform me that it's indeed bedtime and why aren't I going in there to sleep with him??

When I am ready to go to bed, I'll walk in the bedroom and ask him if he wants to have one last potty. Sometimes he'll get up, other times he won't even open his eyes and acknowledge me lol but without fail as soon as I get in bed, he will get up from wherever he's been sleeping in the room and jump on the bed to lay on top of me.

Toto is 12 weeks, he starts acting desperate around 10pm to go downstais to his crate, leave him there with his open crate door to a patio and stays there... when I wake up around 6am to take him for a walk, has done his poo twice in the patio and is ready for his walk :) ... so far has being a great routine and feeling we are tunned :)

My old golden would always head to the hall and stop, then look back, asking 'is it's OK to go to bed?' I would say 'go ahead, I will be in there in a little bit'. And off to bed she would go.:) My lab usually starts out sleeping on the sofa, but sometime during the night he finds his way to my bed. :p:

Sunny had a set bedtime and if I wanted to stay up later she would get so antsy that I would give in and go to bed.

These two have a bedtime routine but not a set time, they are usually stretched out in the living room with me, when it's time to go to bed we soak food (couple kibble treats each) then one last "business", bedtime cookie, kisses and we all go to bed. Me upstairs, Darby's new spot is by the back door (eventually the sofa) and Kirby has to grab a toy and do some paces, KC is already asleep and Melanie comes to bed with me.

My Tucker always headed to his crate right around 9:00 every night. We would go to put Mia to bed when we went to bed and find Tucker sleeping in his crate. We would just close the door and say good night. He wouldn't even wake up. Now he usually falls asleep in the house and we wake him up and tell him to go to bed and he goes to his crate and falls back asleep. We never did treats in the crate, just lucky he always was cooperative. Probably modeling Mia who sleeps in the crate next to him. No way I am fighting a dog for sleeping space in our bed. Dogs always want the choice spots.

Ranger and I have a compromise: He can go to bed whenever he wants, but he doesn't wake up until I decide. So he typically wanders off to bed between 6 - 8pm every night sleeps on his bed until I wake him up and let him out around 10/11pm. Then I go to bed, and he "asks" to jump up on my bed. We wake up anytime from 8-11am depending on the day. Sometimes he's patiently waiting on the bed for me to get up and other days I have to physically uncurl him from the little ball he's formed in order to get him off the bed.

Nuttinbutgoldens - Ranger wedges himself under my desk at 4:55pm every day and rests his head in my lap. He'll stay there until I finally get to leave work (sometimes I have to stay an extra half hour.) What good senses of time these animals have!

All of our dogs put themselves to bed afer their nightly walk and after they've had their bedtime snack...usually between 8:30 and 9:00. The problem is that Lincoln doesn't sleep through the night.....he can be up as many as 4 times during the night. It's just getting worse now that it's getting lighter out earlier!!!!
