is $10 per week enough money for a cat?

As long as you're not including the cost of vet bills, $10/week should more than cover normal maintenance. It just depends on how much you include for toys, scratching posts, etc. You can spend a lot or a little but $10/week should be more than enough for the standard day-to-day stuff.

I buy a 4 lb bag of cat food about once a month for $8 to $10. You will need to find out how much the initial vet bills will be and add it up. The kitten will need it's shots, at least 3 sets of booster shots, deworming, and test for feline leukemia. That will be the initial expenses, as long as the kitten is healthy you should only have the expense of annual shots after that.

You should call your vet and get an estimate on how much the initial shots, tests and boosters will be total, and how much the annual shots will be after that. Then you will know if saving $10 a week will cover it every year.

I have one indoor only cat that has been very healthy, so vet bills have been minimum. Our other cat though had some chronic problems and had to go to the vet periodically thru out the year so he was more expensive.

Indoor/outdoor or outdoor only cats tend to have more ailments and injuries. You would want your kitten to be an indoor only cat

Dana,
Since you are fostering check with the rescue group to see what they will cover and what you are responsible for. That way you will know what it will cost you. If you do get to foster, congratulations for doing a wonderful thing.
