Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of and/or used Tenderfoot Training. They are based in CO but they also have a dvd out and I think the travel for workshops sometimes.

I've been doing positive training with Harvey since he was 2 months old and he's a great dog but still a little too excited with new people (jumping and occasionally still mouthing) and he's almost one and a half!

I met them at a dog event recently and a lot of what they were saying made sense. They don't use any equipment (shock collars, or even halters/gentle leaders) and they don't use food as a reward which is great if it works b/c Harvey is getting a little on the chunky side and only wanting to do things when he gets treats.

When Harvey jumps on me, I turn away from him and ignore him but they said that's not always the best thing because he's moving me around on his terms.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has ever heard of them (good or bad). I'm thinking about signing up for a lesson with them soon. Here's their site:

The site doesn't tell much about what they actually do... The language and design is very appealing, they definitely know how to market.

I wouldn't do it. Most places with that type of marketing/wording use a lot of physical pressure/force/without calling it so. Like anything else, it's marketed to make you want the service than to actually are able to do.

There is no description of the education (and continued education events) of the trainer/s. This is a heads up to me that either they don't think clients care (which may be true) or that they aren't big on that sort of thing. Unfortunately in this day... there's so much being discovered about neurology and nutrition and other specialty areas...that dog trainers DO need to have a knowledge of that stuff to be able to best help clients.
