Hi GR Forum, :wavey:

I am currently looking to add another member to my family and I was wondering if anyone knows or has had good experience with a reputable breeder in CA (preferably central CA or SOCAL)

I don't want to support puppy mills and an even better option would be a rescue since my gf is very big on the ethical issues of abandoned and over populated sheltered dogs but a breeder is preferred if it is responsible, reputable, etc...

Thanks for any suggestions and advice :You_Rock_

I would start at the GRCGLA club breeder referral list. Information and Education There are a number of wonderful breeders on the list. Some may not have litters planned for the near future but it can't hurt to contact them.

I posted this in another thread, but I do know Woodland Retrievers (Sharon Shilkoff) has a litter on the ground, I don't know if all are spoken for. Melissa Simpson at Ridgeview Goldens has 2 breedings planned this year. Karen Wood (Fairway Goldens) has a breeding that was done about a month ago, I think they are waiting to confirm the pregnancy. All are on the breeder referral list I linked. Others may also have litters, I just haven't heard about them at shows or on Facebook :)

We bought our boy from Promise Kennels (A PROMISE KENNELS) in Sanger near Fresno in January. Owned by Judy and Ron Inman they are a Breeder of Merit. They were planning a spring breeding so they may not have puppies on the ground currently.

We also talked with Patricia at Emerald Acres Goldens (Emerald Acres Golden Retrievers) in Rosamond. We had seen one of her puppies at a Lowes here in Las Vegas who was well trained and beautiful. She is a Breeder of Merit as well.

Both of these people were more than accommodating of our multitude of questions and worth you consideration.

If you are looking for a rescue there are a few out there both in northern and southern CA, NorCal rescue and Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue, to name a few. It depends on where you live as the rescue organizations have limited service areas.
Good Luck in your search.
