Hi guys!

My six month golden has black gunk in his ears. I can not determine if it is ear mites or an infection. I am going to get medicine tomorrow but do not want to misdiagnose. (We can not get into the vet until Tuesday). It is black, no smell, warm to touch, I have not noticed it bothering him/ itchiness and in both ears....any suggestions? Thank you! This is our first issue so I am overly worried *New dogmom :)

You can use Zymox for ear infections. You DO NOT clean the ears before use, this is IMPORTANT. It will clear both Bacterial and Fungal (Yeast) ear infections and should clear in 7-10 days. It's been known to be effective against ear mites BUT, with any over the counter ear mite problems, sometimes you need a prescription strength remedy. You use the one WITH Hydrocortisone unless you see sores, then use the one WITHOUT Hydrocortisone until the sores are gone. My local pet stores (29 store chain privately owned) carries it in stock.
