hello everyone..since yesterday, i tried to attach dulce's leash to her collar but she hated the leash so much...shes been pulling all her might to get off the leash...its so hard to walk with her coz it looks like were playing tug of war and shes been growling and barking while at the same time pulling and munching on her leash...what should i do...there was never a single second that we got to walk peacefully up to the time that she was able to free herself coz her collar was a bit loose...shes only 2 months old...i got 2 small collars and one choker but all of them seem to be kinda big for her thats why she still manage to free herself whenever i attach the leash to her...ive read several leash training tips on the net but its kinda different if your pup tries to pull away from the leash whenever she's attracted to some stuffs while walking from a pup who hated her leash from the start...thanks in advance for all the responses...

Give it some time and she'll get used to it. All puppies do that, at first..

Don't try to walk with her on leash at first. Just sort of stand around (with the leash on her) and let her sniff and lead the way. This way she will become used to it without you needing to pull her. After she is used to it then you can slowly begin to walk her with it. Good luck.

If you're afraid she will back up out of the collar, you could consider using a martingale collar on her while she is on leash (do not leave it on her unattented). This (http://www.collargirl.com/how_martingale_work.htm) explains how such a collar works.

Letting her drag the leash around at first -both inside and outside if you have a fenced yard- and using a relatively light leash (not a 1 inch wide one with a heavy clasp) at first can help.

Try attaching the lead to her collar, and then don't hold it, but play games with her so hopefully she will be distracted from worrying about it. You can then progress to putting the lead on her whilst she is being fed - put the lead on and then walk her to her food - it may only be a couple of paces at the start, but steady and slowly is the name of the game with a youngster,

You've got some good advice so far. The only thing I would add is have some patience. :) It was hard with our pup too, but he slowly got used to it. Oh, and please don't use a choke collar on the puppy (if that's what you meant in your post). It could hurt her throat. :)

She'll get the hang of it!

hello everyone!!...thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences and sound advices to me...dulce's behavior is improving...i first attached the leash on her and let her play with it...then the following day i tied the leash to my bed and as expected, she had an all out war with the leash but eventually, she had gotten used to it...she was excellent when i taught her how to heel using a lot of praise and treats....my current problem with her now is her being excessively mouthy that most of the times, if shes not inside her crate, i put on the leash,,,shes very much different compared with my previous pup...with barney, (my other pup who died last march) i never had any problems with him with regards to the leash training and most of the times i let him roam around the house freely...but with dulce, its kinda impossible to do...she would munch on anything, my mom's butt, my visitors pants, ive got tons of scratches, puncture wounds, bruises on my legs, toes, hands and arms and even on my face...am still being patient with her and couldnt wait for her to get over this phase...i still have some minor problems with her concerning her being a picky eater lately but i shall discuss about it in another thread...overall, shes sweet and i love her to death...thank you all so much for taking the time to share your experiences, advices and suggestions with me...its greatly appreciated.... :)
