Elliot is 9 weeks old,and I'm not sure about him. He isn't snuggly, cuddly or seem very human oriented at all.
He will follow me around to chew on my pant legs and will ocassionally play tug with me,but it doesn't seem like he is trying to bond with me at all.
Is this normal for golden puppies,or did I get really unlikely?
Regardless of the outcome he is here to stay, but I was hoping he would bond and want to work with me

Rain is the same way. But I knew that when I got her. I asked which of the puppies were more playful and he said "this one is the cuddler" so I picked the other one. haha. and he was right, Rain is definately NOT the cuddler. I wanted a dog for sports (dock diving, frisbee and obediance) and she is perfect :D I have a feeling once she gets older she will just want to cuddle all the time. haha

We were the opposite! We had it narrowed down to two puppies to choose from as well. The breeder mentioned that puppy A was more adventurous and puppy B was more snuggly. So we chose puppy B after interacting with them both. I figured working with a puppy who is more handler oriented can be easier. Our last golden was independent and we went through some tough puppy stages before we finally clicked. But we did!

To the OP, I bet your pup will come around as well. Just give him some time. Congrats on your new pup too by the way! I wish you many wonderful years ahead with him.

I remember when our Maverick was a puppy, my wife always complained that he was not cuddly. At about 2 yrs, you couldn't get those two moving on a Saturday or Sunday morning because the two would cuddle in bed till late morning.

Often, golden puppies just are not cuddlers. It just takes time and you should be patient because at some point your going to have a lap dog..........a 70-80lbs lap dog.

I feel the same way about Layla. I did discover that when we take a car ride, she will offer to sit in my lap while I am driving. Not the best time to snuggle so I am not able to encourage her but I did let her the first time she tried it just because I was so thrilled that she offered to be snuggly. She is becoming more willing to snuggle first thing in the morning but it is short-lived and we are back to playing, biting, and training quickly. She is 13 weeks right now. She is tolerating kisses but she grunts the whole time like..."PLEASE make it STOP!" lol!

almost sounds like my anna. She never was very cuddly when she was little. I mean if she was really asleep you could kind of cuddle her and she would just sleep but she never would like come lay on your lap or anything.

She always was and still is a huge clinger haha. But recently she has been the cuddliest dog ever! It's been a huge shock to my wife and I but now she loves to walk over, lay next to us and put her head on our lap.

your pup may be the same way, plus at 9 weeks they have the attention span of a toddler.
