My wife insist's on doing birthday parties.... I think they're kinda ridiculous, but I deal with it...anything to make her happy. We only do them for 1st birthdays. Same thing as you're planning it sounds like. Friends, special treats, walks, etc...

Why not have parties? Life is so short and stressful. Celebrate and enjoy when you can!

 

Rib eye steak cooked well done. I'd give Ben half for lunch and the other half for dinner. Until dinner time he'd fly into the kitchen evertime he'd hear the fridge door open knowing the second part of his steak was in there

 

That must of been really funny to watch him every time the fridge would open. They sure are smart.

her "cake" was a hamburger pattie covered with mashed potatoes. one warning - the cake gave her the runs bad for about a day and a half.

 

I didn't plan on having a party...lol. Tucker doesn't have any doggie friends.

Well, we usually celebrate birthdays --- ALL birthdays with a trip to PetsMart for a special treat and in the evening they have a piece of cake (real cake) or a cupcake and we sing happy birthday. Birthdays is the ONLY time they get a "sweet treat."

My friend, who has no children had a party for her last puppy and invited all his littermates. He was from her litter so she had kept in touch with them all. There were 9! They all came. She had her deck decorated with birthday stuff and had a sheet cake made from liver and frosted with cream cheese. She had snacks other than the cake for the dogs and human food for the owners. All the dogs that came got a birthday hat and some kind of little goodie baggie. Her birthday boy and his mom and dad had beautiful huge bow ties and special hats ---- which they left on! She had my hubby there to take pictures and each dog had their picture taken with the birthday boy and with mom and dad. This party cost her a fortune! But, she had fun and thats what counts. Needless to say the dogs lapped it up and there were NO fights! Everyone got along beautifully!

Molly is learning the joys of birthdays so I'm sure this year she'll be completely into pressies. She did try and open Kerry's pressies this year :bowl:

 

We took Lucy to Chuck E. Cheese's on her birthday, but got kicked out when she attacked the chicken/keyboard player in the mechanical band.

 

I've seen those bands....I'm sure the chicken had it coming....

 

Wow! They let her in Chuck E Cheese? Around here we can't take our dogs in anywhere unless they are a service dog and then some places try to stop you!

I wish we could take her in more places though.... Sometimes I've thought about pretending to be blind and she is my seeing-eye dog, but my wife always stops me and reminds me that I'm going to hell.
I think last year for her birthday, we just went out to the lake with an armload of tennis balls. I can't imagine her rather doing anything else.

Chloe will be celebrating her 10th birthday today at an Elementary School and then a Nursing Home.

We celebrate the way that we celebrate our own birthday - it's just another day!

I normally give "birthday boy" a special hug & say "Happy Birthday" but that's about it! No big deal!

 

I celebrate with videos of the year we've had...

I started this tradition (last year) simply because I don't want to wait until after my dog has died to celebrate the little memories we've had year after year. I'm hoping that 10+ years in the future when I need the happy memories, they will be there for me to look at and look back at.

I also take my guy over to the store and let him pick out his own toy. He literally is like a little kid when he gets into the store and knows I will buy him whatever he picks out no matter how ridiculous the price.

And look the other way (at least just that one day) when my mom gets overgenerous with the handouts. My mom is right there with me when it comes to "not waiting". With our first golden we had always planned on giving him a VERY SPECIAL day at the end with a steak dinner just for him. As it turned out, he couldn't eat or drink anything at the end.

 

Someone in the elementary school gave Chloe a bandana.

 

We usually celebrate with extra treats and some new toys. Toby will officially become a senior on 1/24/12 (age 8). How will we celebrate? Well, he motivated me to call and schedule an appointment with a new ophthalmologist for my eyes. It seemed appropriate since we've just taken him through double cataract surgery this year. He gets restored vision and I'll get new glasses!

 

Since Cooper is a rescue, were are not sure when his actual birthday is, but since we have a ballpark idea when it is. We do a birthday WEEK. We do all of his favorite things all week. As often as he wants. And several puppy play dates in various places.

 

With mine i don't know their birthdays as they are rescue i celibrate on the day we got them and call that their birthday they get presents and i sing happy birthday to them my husband thinks i am mad :uhoh:
