So I picked up my foster Riley today. He DESPERATELY needs a bath because he smells so bad. But the person from the rescue that picked him up first understandably frontlined him before I got him. I don't think there is any way I can take the smell for two days.

Can I give him a bath and put more frontline on him in a day or so? I could use capstar in the meantime. If I did give him a bath would it totally wash off if I don't use flea shampoo?

Sigh, I bet I'm just going to have to live with it aren't I? :uhoh:

Thanks for any and all input!!

Waterproof but not soap proof. I have washed new fosters that were just Frontlined, but I don't get the application area wet or soapy.

Thanks for the quick input guys!!! :) :)

I sat down to try and brush him out and discovered he is very matted. Ears, tail, feathers, chest. Way beyond my experience and I don't have the tools to deal with them. I'll be taking him to the groomer as soon as I can. Poor guy....they have to be uncomfortable!

Thanks again! Good info!

I am so excited for Riley and you that you are fostering!!

If I did wash him tomorrow I would try to avoid the spot where they put the frontline and like everyone else said, I WOULD NOT PUT MORE FRONTLINE ON.

When you get a chance we would love pictures!

Congratulations!!

They used to sell a shampoo at the pet stores that you brush in just to freshen them up. I wonder if that would be allowed?

How is Merlin liking Riley?

I didn't read everyone's answer, and someone may have told you this. You can use a soap free shampoo (ask vet, he probably carries the shampoo) and it supposedly won't wash off the Frontline topical. But the bigger issue is the skin needs to have its natural oils on it for the topical to properly spread over the body. So if you wash the dog, you will remove the oils.
Do you remember the dry shampoos (for humans) they used to sell many years ago? Is there something like that you could use just to get you through the next couple of days

If he needs a bath, bathe him. If you go up on the Merial website, or talk to the vet, I'm sure they can advise as to when the Frontline can be reapplied. Also, using a conditioner when you bathe him will help you with the making it easier to get some of the mats out.
