Chance has never buried anything, but Lucy buries everything I give her. She'll dig things up days later, then brings them in the house leaving a trail of dirt and then eats it. :yuck:

She also collects socks and since I won't let her take them outside she hides them around the house. She's even buried them under Chance when he's sleeping. :uhoh:

Lucy is sooooo weird, but I love her. :smooch:

My bridge dog Cedah used to like to age her bones underground. She would bury them under my front porch and then dig them up after they had aged for at least a year. They were not pretty when she wanted to bring them back into the house. Caue and Oakly have found many of the bones she stashed under there but I've never seen them add to the cache.

Funny you should post this..I just watched Fergus bury his rawhide chewie..he does it all the time when he doesn't want it right away..too funny! he digs a hole and then uses his nose as a shovel to cover it back up, out neighbor gave him a stuffed teddy bear awhile ago and he tried to bury that too, it was quite big so he just managed to cover its face with old leaves, I guess he figured if he couldn't see the face it was all good!

Sheamus has never buried anything in his life!

My goldens don't do it, but the german shepherds I had did. They would bury things in shoes, in my blankets, in the couch and in my laundry. One day I was doing my laundry and found half a slice of pizza that my husband had given Zeus.

We would always know when Zeus had buried something, if one of the other dogs went three feet within the vicinity, he would stop anything he was doing, and run quickly to the place and guard it. When he was burying it, he would always be doing this little cry noise, like he was so worried about the item. Thanks for bringing up some happy memories of my past dogs.

This made me really laugh. :D Lucy does the same thing to Chance. She has her favorite spots in the house that she "buries" things and Chance knows them all. It's a daily ritual for him to check every single place in the exact same order. Sometimes he gets lucky and finds a cookie, (usually when Lucy is sleeping), but not too often...she's pretty quick to defend her treasures. :)

This post brought back fond memories. My boys never bury anything (they do plenty of digging though), but growing up many, many years ago, I had a black lab mix. I remember my Mom coming back from grocery shopping on Saturday mornings. Her last stop was always at the butcher shop. She always brought back a big meaty bone for Blackie who knew the routine and was always waiting for her return with a wagging tail. She would unload the groceries and unwrap the bone and hand it over to a grateful Blackie. It would upset her week after week, but Blackie would always run off with his prize and bury it. We assumed they were dug up and enjoyed at a future time, but no one every saw Blackie chewing on any of his bones.
