At night when it's bedtime,,Riley usually comes to bed with us and eventually he makes his own way into his crate for the night. But for about the last week, he has been panting alot. Sometimes he shakes the whole bed and have to put him in his crate. He's good once he falls asleep. Could this be just the warmer than usual nights doing this. He does drink lots and never has a shortage of water.

Shadow is going to be 7 years old and he has been a heavy panter his entire life. It used to scare me and it scared me again last week. Tucker doesn't pant much, but Tucker relieves my mind when Shadow scares me and I see Tucker panting, too.
If you know there is no medical reason for the panting, it helps to relax...

Piper seems to pant at anything over 78 degrees. Now, during the summer, she opts for the floor instead of the bed and after she's been rough housing with Paco she'll go down to the basement and has 3 different spots on the concrete floor she cools down on.

Sam pants quite a bit... but he's always "busy" and when he relaxes he doesn't pant (unless its very hot) so I've never been concerned with it. Dillon rarely pants unless its after a heavy wrestling match or unless its hot (hot for my spoiled san diego dogs is anything above 75 ;) )

Jersey's always been a big panter... and I know that shaking bed feeling well!! Let me tell you, a few too many drinks and him at the foot of my bed can make for an ugly combination!!

But as Kim said, if it's something that concerns you there's nothing to lose by checking in with the vet. If this is your pup's first summer, this would likely be just the first you're seeing of your dog's reaction to summer. But if your dog is older and this is sudden and new, I would strongly suggest a vet check to put yourself at ease.

Like a freight train

Our 7-8 month old pants like a freight train. It really worries me, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him. He's done this since we've had him. Seems to do it more at night, and other times before a pee or before he takes a nap.

I used to think he was tired, but he will pant and pant after a walk, and then as soon as we get home he wants to run and play in the yard!
