Hi all! I was wondering if any of you use these products for grooming (Shampoo, conditioner, coat spray etc) and which you recommend for Goldens... Tucker is just a pet but I want his coat to look as wonderful as possible. I've used some shampoo from petco and i'm not thrilled with it... His coat doesn't seem as fluffy and is so static-y!! If not Chris Christensen then what brand works for you... Tucker still has his puppy coat so maybe something different for puppy coats vs adult coats. We only bathe every two weeks per the breeders recommendation but sometimes he needs a bath before the two weeks... so she recommended using just a conditioner if that was the case. Price really isn't an issue as we want the best possible product. Of course if there are equally good products that cost less then please enlighten me!

Thanks in advance :)

You will get dozens of opinions here. Bio-Groom is one I like. www.3cdog.com
Chris' supplies I haven't used. I love my shears that are made by him though!

Ask your breeder. Since she shows, she probably has a good suggestion for what works on her particular dogs fur.

The things I listed were basic essentials that I like to have on hand. ;)

I have a lot of other stuff that I picked up for show grooming or touch ups. <- CC hairspray, CC thick and thicker, CC silk spirits (I love the smell of this and it makes a good detangler), Crown royal bodifier, etc.... <- These things are not necessary for daily grooming though. I think they could probably mess up the coats if used too frequently and not washed out on a weekly basis. o_O

Daily grooming - I just really have a wire slicker and the vinegar/water mixture. That's really it.

Other thing I meant to say - don't really look at the coat too much while they are puppies. Just get them used to being groomed and think ahead to when the nice coat starts coming in. :)

ETA - Other thing - there's no reason you can't give your dogs weekly baths with regular shampoo - especially if you are diluting the shampoo (rinses out easier that way).

I just got these thinning shears two days ago and LOVE them!
Amazon.com: Kenchii Five Star Offset 44 Teeth Thinner 6": Pet Supplies I use this Comb from CC with them: #005 Buttercomb 7 1/2" Long Tooth Fine/Coarse.

I also have the CC brush cleaner, but use it to fluff up the toe fur before trimming. I also use the CC Mark I X-Small Slicker Brush, the CC Mark III Medium Slicker Brush, the CC 27mm T-Brush, the CC 20mm Oblong Wood Pin Brush 8 1/2" body length.

For straight shears I have this, but need some shorter ones too. Amazon.com: Millers Forge Hair Cutting Scissor, Straight, Ball Tip, 7-1/2-Inch: Pet Supplies

I got this hair dryer for home use in the winter. Amazon.com: B-Air Dryers Bear Power 1 High Velocity Dryer: Pet Supplies

I'm using Miller's Forge nail clippers (orange) , but I'm considering a Dremel 8200 with a flexi shaft attachment that a friend recommended.

A friend sent me a wonderful pin brush from Cherrybrook, but I can't find the link.

I use the Day to Day Moisturizing Shampoo by CC. It works very well for us.

I got a folding grooming table with arm and noose from Pet Edge. They messed up the order and didn't send the clamp for the grooming arm. I called and they agreed to send the part but I got a whole new grooming arm with two clamps. (???) plus just recently a $25 gift certificate because they messed up my order. I plan to get more grooming supplies with that! Yogi goes on the table just fine, but Toby hates it so our vet suggested we groom him on a mat on the floor while I scoot around on a rolling stool.

Right now I'm learning a lot from the Erik Strickland DVDs on Golden grooming.

I'll give you a bump at least? :)

Shampoo:
Cowboy Magic Rosewater Shampoo
Groomers Edge Dynamic Duo
All Systems Super Cleansing and Conditioning Shampoo
Adams Flea/Tick Shampoo

Rinse/grooming spray:
Cowboy Magic Bodyshine
Miracle Groom (bath in a bottle)
Vetroline
1/2 cup bragg vinegar + 4 cups distilled water

Brushes:
Large Wire slicker
CC Fusion Oval 20mm (going by memory)
CC Metal comb - a fine/coarse comb

Shears:
7.5 Curved Roseline Shear (Amazon)
46t Kenchii Scorpion thinning Shears

Nail Clippers:
Miller Forge clippers - orange handle (they stay sharp)
Dremel

Dryer:
Air Force Commander 2-Speed <- I have this
B-Air 2 speed <- I was also looking at these

Table:
I was skeptical on these, but it does make major grooming sessions (drying after baths, toe-fur trimming, ear trimming, etc) much easier if the dog is up and you don't have to be crawling around on the floor to get a better view of what you're doing to the feet. :) I ordered a table that came with the arm and has wheels. <- Have to admit that the wheels are nice at home, but I felt weird hauling a table behind me at the show (so I just picked it up and carried the big heavy table).

I have the Chris Christensen Kool Dry dryer. Love it. It seems like it will last forever. I've had it for about a year.

For shampoo, I like Isle of Dogs Royal Jelly. I've also used the IOD Evening Primrose Oil since we live in an extremely dry climate and we all get dry itchies especially in the winter. It seems to help Kea.

Most products won't be available at PetCo, but if you can find a big dog show in your area, you can have at it with the vendors. Take your checkbook!

I LOVE that picture of Tucker in your signature by the way. What a sweet little baby he is.

Oh and thank you for the complement on Tucker... he's a sweetheart :) We just got back from a private puppy lesson- It went great. He's doing so well... Me on the other hand... I really need to get my coordination better! It takes skill to learn to do sit with hand signals and not have Tucker jumping everywhere because I'm putting the treat too high or low... anyway I digress..

My breeder recommended some of CC's brushes and combs. I was shocked at how expensive they are. For what I paid, I would hope they brush the dog for me! :)

That said, so far I'm happy with them. They seem to be built to last. We'll see.

They sent a sample shampoo/conditioner set with my order. Hoping to try them out soon.

Oh! One more thing to add. A dremel for nails. We got one at Home Depot, not one of the pet pedi ones.

That would be a good thing to get him used to as a puppy.

I always clipped nails on my previous dogs before Kea, but now that we've gotten into dremeling, I'll never go back. I just really like the look of a short nail.

Thank you all! Wonderful Advice and very thorough... I LOVE THIS FORUM! Thank you... Dallas Gold- thank's for all the great links. I wish there was a store I could go to to buy all this stuff... I'm used to being able to go to the tack store and get all the show shampoos and supplies needed for my horse. Wish they had a "grooming store" for dogs. I went to my local boutique pet store and settled on Cloud Star "Buddy Wash" until the things I ordered on amazon come in. I was pleased with the results as his coat is very fluffy and not static-y I also think it makes a difference when I spent more time blow drying him with a brush. I did find a new toy that I absolutely LOVE!!! It's a pig that covers milk jugs! Tucker LOVE's his milk jugs but this makes it even more fun for him... as I'm typing his carrying it around and its soo cute. I'll try to get a picture of him (Misplaced my camera) but until then here is a link...
