Zoomies are both fun and scary. We called it hell hour. As a puppy Rukie would run around in the fenced in yard then fly into the house and land on the first person he could. It was all done with a crazed look in his eyes. At 28 months old he still does them but in the neighbors big yard where he spins around his 10 month old friend. I can tell he thinks he's really cool with his spin moves.
I agree with all the comments regarding how this is normal behavior. Brody is 8.5 months old and he always has his zoomie moment as soon as he goes outside in the yard, or as soon as we take him off his lead when hiking. He will run like a wild dog until he burns up all his pent up energy, then he calms down and enjoys his hike or time in the yard. I also agree it's better for this activity to be outdoors. Enjoy and zoom out with him. LOL
Zoomies are great for releasing energy. Hudson had them today when we got home from training at the pet store complete with jumping on and off the bed several times! Too much "behaving" at the pet store, I guess!
Zoomies are a release of frustrated energy - good or bad. You see a lot of leash biting in Golden, especially young Goldens, for the same reason.
Puppies have a lot of pent up energy so that’s when you see them most often. They also happen after periods of restriction, anxiety and overstimulation like bath time, aversive equipment and training, crating, lack of adequate off-leash time and even snow.
