It is common to have to buy a first bag of whatever the breeder is feeding.
Not common to require a lifelong attachment...

They have an excellent reputation and there are many breeders that have you feed a certain food. I think it is great that they care enough to want their dogs they breed to be fed what they feel is best. If it was not working for whatever reason then I am sure it wouldn't be an issue to just talk to them and switch?

Funny you should ask about them...they've been one of my top choices as I've been researching. I was emailing back and forth a little bit with Denyce and asked for the pedigree info on the dam and sire for her next litter. She provided me with their names (not official names, just nicknames). I asked again for names that I could research on ofa.org and k9data.com. While she does list some pedigree info with full names for some of her dogs on her website, there is no information for either of the dogs that she told me were the parents of the upcoming litter. Since I asked for the specific information, she has not responded to me. I would like the info so that I can research their eye health and annual eye clearances. My last golden suffered from uveitis and spent the final 5 years of his life without eyes. I really don't want to go through all of that again with our next golden. The breeder I select will hopefully understand that and will be transparent and forthcoming with that information. I’d still love to bring home a puppy from Wyoming Golden’s if I can read up a little on the clearances.

I just had the same experience. I asked for their AKC numbers so I could look up that information. Silence.

Health guarantee being contingent upon feeding one particular food is not a “suggestion”.

I am not making any judgements on how they run their breeding operation. Just a fact that they do profit from the sales of this food. I think most good breeders give food recommendations and send puppies home with a small bag of food they are currently on, even if they do not earn commission on that food.

Most reputable breeders do recommend food. Our breeder told us what puppy food she was using and also what she was feeding the adult dogs. She explained why she chose those foods as well. She didn't require that we feed those foods in her contract or health guarantee nor did she require Nuvet or other supplements. I think most forum members would agree that a requirement of that type with the breeder earning a commission indicates a monetary motivation and probably could be considered a red flag. Whether it's a make or break should be up to the individual. Debating whether the duration of the requirement is 2 yrs or a lifetime seems like splitting hairs to me......
