Hello All!

I took Kody to the Vet on Thursday because out of the blue..he yelped horribly and was holding up his right rear leg. :( He only held up his leg for maybe 5-10 seconds, then was okay!? I called the Vet and he had me bring him in. No Xrays were taken, just instructed to keep an eye on him. Well, since then, he went 2 days with no problems, now once yesterday and again today. I am so worried that maybe its his hips, luxating patella or an ACL injury? Any help or words of wisdom?

The 4 times this has happened its been when all of Kody's weight is on his rear. He will be a year old on the 30th and prior to this, no problems. I called my breeder and asked if she was aware of this issue with any littermates and she said no. I am so worried..I am going to call the Vet and ask for XRAYs...what do you think????

Thanks for your advise!

Common problems may include luxating patella, pano, OCD or partial ACL tear. Less common problems include broken bones in the foot. Dogs are very good at hiding foot injuries.

Robbie did exactly that the first time he injured his ACL, honestly an xray won't show soft tissue damage though.

I hope he just needs rest to recover.

Kody

Yes definitely get xrays at the vet.
Smooch did the same thing in March she just yelped and was holdling up her hind leg and then would hold it up and try to hop.
It turned out she had ruptured her ACL and we had TPLO surgery for her.
and she is as good as new. there is also another surgery for this that they use sutures in.
Here is my Story about Smooch from March.

Did Smooch ever put her bad leg down after she yelped or just hopped around on 3 legs? Kody yelps...holds the leg up, then after a few seconds is walking on all 4's again! If its just a tear or an injury to the ACL...with TLC can it heal up on its own??

I'm posting my thread only because Kody's problem sounds so terribly similar to Flora's, but I sincerely hope it is nothing but a sprain or something trivial like that.

Did your vet try to manipulate the patella? Flora's vet did and she said it wasn't too easy to slip out of place, and could only get it to slip when her knee was bent. Nevertheless, Flora still does it on her own upward of 7 or 8 times a day.

I hope Kody feels better soon.
