Chloe is doing great at loose leash walking, but as I've mentioned in the past..she still goes nuts when I try and stop to talk to passing walkers or heaven forbid they have a dog...she is CRAZY.

So I've been using a halti on walks because she is so strong now I have a hard time controlling her when she meets another dog.

I've transitioned to her wearing the halti, but have her leash attached to her buckle collar. When we see a dog coming, I gently hold her by the halti tether and guide her by the dog giving her praise for controlling her impulse to go crazy.

I was wondering if the next step would be a prong collar. that way she is off the halti but I could use the same guiding by the prong collar as we pass other dogs? or is this redundant to the halti.

hope this makes sense...
thanks
L.

If she is doing well with the halti, I see no reason to use a prong. Over time she will calm down and then you can phase out the halti, but I see no reason why you would want to do that right now.

I walk all three of mine with Easy Walk harnesses, for my safety and theirs. But I can walk the boys, together, with just their martingales or flat collars and they don't pull. They learned that from wearing their Easy Walk harnesses. There is never any tension in their leashes when they have their harnesses on. The leashes hang loosely.
