I just received Duffy's pedigree from the AKC. Its so interesting. I'm wondering what the 6 digit number beginning with a V is which is listed under some, but not all, of the dogs listed in Duff's pedigree?

That is the DNA registration number from the AKC's DNA profile. You will probably notice in most instances it is listed with the males.

Oh, thank you! Is this something I can look up to see DNA records?

Kris

Not exactly. The AKC requires that any stud who sires 7 litters in its lifetime or 3 in a calendar year to have a DNA profile screening on file with them. It is not a DNA screen to determine inheritable diseases but merely genetically identify parents to help ensure the integrity of their registry. It has also "allowed" for dual sire litters being that the parentage of the pups can be determined by the DNA screening. I hope that explains it and is not as clear as mud. ;)
