What "job" does your Golden excell in?

I love agility, obedience, dock diving is thrilling, tracking (where they drag the scent); practically all dog sports.

Penny doesn't excel at anything except being a pet. She has no interest in doing anything. She watches the wonderful dogs playing dog games on the Animal Planet channel and has a look that says "You guys are dumb, you don't have to work, just lay down and quit".

She was supposed to be a therapy dog but she doesn't stay interested in people once she's found out they have no treats.

Her idea of fun is wrestling with us, chasing her big purple ball for a few minutes, going wading and running free through the park with us. I guess the only letters after her name would be a.r.m c.a.n.d.y.

What does your Golden do?

Lucky is an excellent greeter. Head down and a bit cockeyed, eyes looking at visiters..then away... than back(like I love you but I'm so shy), tail wiggling wildly, body slightly couched lower to ground. All obvious body language. No one asks "does he bite?". He makes it obvious he loves people and only wants their love.

However...he makes a good watch dog too when something is not "right" with what is walking down the street or coming through our yard. Even lawn chairs will be barked at when they are stacked instead of arranged in the yard like they normally are.

He's a kid companion best of all....loving all kids that walk in the yard or throough the door.
being a pest getting in the way but he is very very protective when out for walk with both me and daughter and anyone else that is with us but hos total excellence is how to murder the hoover the other twoo are out and out hoover killers arnies more subtle he tends to chomp when its not even on lol
Tysen is a good guard/watch dog, a very good playmate to other dogs, keeping Riley in check (the westie), a really good snuggler, and good comedy relief
Kaylee snuggles, loves to wrestle my son and she usually wins, sleeping, barking at scarecrows, keeping the cat in check. I've thought about having her be a service or therapy dog (my in laws have border collies that are service dogs for my disabled father in law) but nothing set in stone yet.
Casey excels at many jobs, now that I think of it!
He is an excellent snuggler. He feels it is his job to sit, bum on one step, paws on the next step down and snuggle you at the top of the stairs every morning. He NEVER misses doing this.
For me, he always carries the newspaper from the porch into the kitchen...never for my husband!
He always lets me know that something is happening at the front of the house by standing and staring out the window, whining.
Casey lets me know when a cat needs in by whining. The cats return the favour for him!
He is getting better at his job of watching me during obedience exercises.
He knows to retrieve something that is thrown, to my general vicinity.
He knows it is his job to watch me and have fun during agility.
And he knows to "look after the house" when I leave for work in the morning.
He is quite a busy fellow!
Tito makes sure my underwear is clean. He follows me into the bathroom and makes sure he sticks his head in and sniff sniff sniff as soon as I sit down.....which is really annoying if he's just had a drink of water.
ok admit it, he's not the only one!
I know, I know, TMI!
Bailey excells in shredding up paper/toilet paper/paper towels into itsy bitsy pieces and spreading them through out the living room. She even did this to my daughters homework that was left on the kitchen table. She will eat some of that paper too.

LMAO!! Mine do this too.. :p:
Great watch dog - if you ask him to check a noise he will check. If it's something you need to check he comes to get you.

Recycles - helps shred paper boxes for the trash. Really - Husband hands him a box and he shreds is fo rhim.

Sock collector - finds single socks that went into hiding. (this is probably really really sock thief)

Modern Artist - he likes to nose paint on all my windows...I do think he is trying to spell something out to me.

I like to think of it as "underwear retireer (sp)" he decides when I need all new underwear and chews holes in all of them. This is a bit annoying to find out on a monday morning when your husband did the wash and you had no idea he threw in munched up underwear.

Best buddy to watch TV with - Loves to watch "So You think You Can Dance".

Shyly raises hand - Jules is guilty of this too!
This thread took a turn I wasn't expecting but I love it even more.

Penny follows me to the bathroom and as soon as I sit, she paws my thigh: "Pet me mom, you're not busy, just sitting there doing nothing!"

She 'Ghosts' me: Follows me, stops when I do, starts when I do. We play this game all through the house. I never turn around, she just does what I do until we get near the bedroom. Then she barges past me, takes a flying leap onto the bed and plops herself down to wrestle, all growly and bitey.

She goes into the garden with me and eats the 'extra' green beans right off the plant. She's very good at laying on the warm grass mulch and keeping me company.

She lets me know everyday, twice a day, that it's time for her biscuit. Without fail. She also tries to fool me by sitting by the pantry door looking like she hasn't had a biscuit. "You can't fool me Penny, I'M the one who gave you the biscuit, silly girl".

She LIVES for that day when you forget, though! :D
Decorator: Tango is an interior designer. When her precious tennis balls roll under a piece of furniture, large or small, she will push it as hard as she needs to to move it, and get that ball-ball.

Top Model: Tally is a doggie model for Orvis, and this has gone to his head. He now performs the various poses before he is asked, expecting awesome food treats. He has it backwards and thinks he has humans trained to give treats whenever he puts his chin flat on a dog bed. . . If treats don't materialize, he will woof.

Pest control/window washer: Finn loves to stand with his nose pushed against the glass windows of the sunporch, watching for chipmunks, squirrels, birds, and the woodchuck family who tunnels under the small stables. He looks like an electrified statue when he sees a tiny anlmal and there are nose prints on the window where he presses his nose for ten minutes straight.
They both have tons of jobs they do well.. lol..
Both are excellent watch dogs.. I am happy they will be quiet when told. Could be worse. They will both " sing " along with their Cuz toy squeakers. They both are great floor cleaners. If the parrot or a child drops something they are right there.. the clean up crew!

Rusty is the king when it comes to chasing away all the invisible boogers from the yard. He clears the perimeter each time he goes out. He also excels in gathering socks.. clean dirty, undies.. he doesn't care. He will gather towels, clothes from the kids bags, etc and line his crate with them.

Penny.. Inspects all the things Rusty has left in his crate.. Apparently he missed a few.. as by the time she is down there will be tiny little perfectly round holes in the items! She also is great at bringing in from outside all of the items Rusty managed to sneak out with. She rocks at showing her excitement by poking her nose squarely into an eye. ;)
We love them dearly.. They are brilliant!

Mine is a great Hi-5er. :)

I get freaked out about him being a sock collector because at the vet a lab was there because it wasn't feeling good. He threw up in the waiting room; the throw up had 2 socks in it and owner didn't know he swolled them.
  1. Spider Finder - We won't even know that we have a spider hanging down from a ceiling fan until Lucy starts barking at it.
  2. Lap warmer - Don't make the mistake of sitting down in the living room if you have something to do, and Lucy is carrying around a snuggle toy. Your lap will be occupied soon.
  3. Boss lady - Don't sit down to watch tv after eating without washing the dishes, Lucy will make sure you do your job.
  4. Fart police - If someone farts, Lucy will let you know who, because she'll sniff your butt. She'll even do the same for herself.
  5. Timekeeper - Do not get off of schedule for her morning potty or evening playtime. Do not stray from the routine, or she'll never settle down.
making us laugh. I mean, if that isn't considered a job, it should well be!!
Reeva's a brilliant alarm clock - bang on 7.30 in the morning she barks, I keep saying i'm going to cover up the clock in the kitchen so she can't see it!

Quinn has a thing for DIY - put anything down and it's pinched and carted off to his favourite spot to be paraded about when you go to get it off him

Reno (9 years old) is a good rug warmer and big brother to Austin and Lincoln. He's just happy being a dog!!!

Austin (9 months old) - good little brother, lap warmer (he thinks he's a lap do), also helps with the laundry (he retrieves it from the laundry basket and brings it to me), shoe collector, window nose painter, plant waterer, excavator, remote control operator (when he steals it from his dad) and good at making mom and dad laugh with his goofiness!!

Lincoln (7 months old) - good little brother, also helps with the laundry, shoe collector, window nose painter, excavator, cat exerciser (he chases her, she runs), dead gopher retriever (and sometimes eater), likes to watch Dog Town with mom and really good at making mom and dad laugh!!!
