I thought this would be a fun topic, and it’s evergreen.

We went to a preserve. This is Okehocking Preserve in Newtown Square, PA.

Anyone else want to share?

I'm so sorry to hear about your relative - that's a horrible diagnosis! Cancer stinks! I hope you get to spend some time with your relative.. and I wish your relative has much more time than she is hoping for... 🙏🏽

Ramses has been alright on the metro for now - but he has an additional 10 day course (20 days of metro). On Wednesday evening, he took his sentinel pill. And Thursday evening he had a good poo but there was a streak of blood 😮‍💨 today it's back to normal poos. So I don't know maybe it was just a fluke. In any case, since he's eaten some garbage back in February (croutons and bark and God knows what else), his intestines seem a bit upset. We have decided to do an ultrasound this coming Tuesday, to check his intestines and make sure nothing residual is left that's irritating him. I hope we will not find anything insidious of course. His blood work and urine analysis came back good. Only stool had clostridium perfringen 😣

I was sorry to hear that Ramses was sick and hope he is continuing to improve. I think that when our pets don't feel well, we are just as miserable as they are, partly because we feel helpless until they start to get better. Clostridium perfringens is a nasty bacteria that also causes lots of cases of food poisoning in humans, usually traced back to meat or meat products (speaking not from personal experience, but as a retired public health nurse). Sending good wishes that he is back to normal soon!

Congratulations @GrandmaToGoldens and good girl Eva!

@Sankari, I’m sorry to hear Ramses has been unwell. How is his recovery coming along?

@GoldenRetieverL0ver08 , I am so sorry to hear about your relative’s diagnosis.

We’re so lucky to have dogs in our lives. There will never be enough time, even for those of us lucky to have what’s considered to be lots of time. It’s still never enough.
It’s so true that there’s never enough time. Sorry to hear about Teddy.

I have still been walking with my friend and her golden several times a week, and tomorrow I’m going along to his first agility class. It will be the same facility and instructor as the classes I took Hallie to, and it feels very bittersweet to be going back there. I’m also planning to attend the GRCA local chapter’s agility trial on Friday. It helps to find ways to do dog sport things and spend time with other dogs while I wait for another puppy to join our family.

@GoldenRetieverL0ver08, @Macca and @chelseah - thanks so much for asking about Ramses 🙏🏽 Sorry I didn't have time to update yesterday.. I am still quite exhausted from jet lag.. He has been alright on the metronidazole since he started taking it about 12 days ago... I'm worried about when he comes off of it if he can maintain his stools but I'm trying to not show it. Ramses seems to be able to tell that I'm worried and that's obviously not going to help. Except for that one instance of tiny blood streak stool after taking his Sentinel pill, his stools have been alright.. it could have just been a coincidence. He took sentinel last month and he was just fine. I'm just shocked to learn from my husband at how he went from good stools that day and all the previous days.. and within in 6 hours had a nasty stool, blood tinged stool and blood and then it stopped.

@Macca, thanks again for telling me how this nasty bacteria is contracted! This has been helpful. I ejar it can cause nasty damage to the intestines. We only know of one clear instance where he ate those bark pieces, nasty croutons and there was a dead animal there - I thought he didn't eat it but I now think he probably did. For this reason, the vet wants to check if there's anything left in his digestive tract, and if he's otherwise alright.. I'm hoping this coming Tuesday, nothing insidious is in his intestines and for good news and solvable problems of course 🤞🏽🤞🏽

On a humorous note, I don't want to drag @bitsybama's thread with all my woes, my apologies to everyone.. We had found a wallet of someone in the field Ramses has been training at.. we have been trying to return it these past days - and we finally managed to get it back to it's owner through the sheriff. The sheriff came to pick up the wallet from us outside our apartment. Ramses got so excited - and predictably he ended up at the back seat of the sheriff car 🤣 I had warned the sheriff not to pay any attention to him and not to let him inside. The sheriff thought it was funny that Ramses loves the cops 🤦🏽‍♀️ it's a pity the windows are tinted though.. So it seems like my Golden has officially managed to get in the back seat of the French police and the American sheriff 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

I bet the Metronidazole is doing just what it should for Ramses, and hope you get an all clear report from the vet on Tuesday. It sure sounds like he's feeling well and continues to make friends all over the place! That's pretty funny about him jumping into the sheriff's car! Maybe he was a police dog in a previous life? ;) Or maybe he aspires to be one? Our local police and sheriff's departments each have several canine officers who are worth their weight in gold. They're usually German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois and are used for tracking criminals and sniffing out drugs. They can strike fear into a criminal pretty easily when their handler/officer gives the command. A Golden would certainly present differently, wouldn't they? They sure are great as comfort animals though, in times of crises.

Thank you, we are hoping for nothing bad as well 🙏🏽 maybe, as you say, he was a police dog in his past life! 😉 When we drive him around and he hears the police/sheriff sirens - he is looking out of the car windows for them. Or maybe he likes getting "arrested" - hence the getting into the vehicle voluntarily 🤣 Ramses was so happy when he saw the sheriff car with the sirens - he started spinning and giving his paw to the sheriff. The sheriff asked Ramses if he wanted to get in, opened the door and Ramses went in - just like that 🙄 he won't respond to us in English but did with a sheriff. So maybe, we need a sheriff to give Ramses commands in English for him to learn English??!
Last time in France, he left with the French policewoman. He just left with her... No looking bad, went on a ride in a police car around our neighborhood in France for like 10 minutes and didn't want that to end at all. We had to tell him he has to come home!! 🤦🏽‍♀️ He was so sad, the police woman had since that episode, come around a few times on patrol just to see Ramses.. He's so spoilt! This time, we also told Ramses we were leaving him and he did not want to get out! People were laughing 🙈🙈

It's the same in France - they are almost always German shepherds and Malinois too! And you're right a golden wouldn't be able to strike fear - mine wouldn't. He would stalk people extremely quietly if necessary - but what use is that? 😂

I find it really intriguing that Ramses is so drawn to the police cars and sirens; I wonder if other people have noticed the same with their Goldens. Does he get just as excited when he sees fire trucks?

He likes sirens and very loud noises. He does react to the firefighter sirens by swishing his tail, very happy 🤦🏽‍♀️ We haven't had an in person incident with a firetruck yet. But I won't be surprised if he left with a firefighter too 😂🤦🏽‍♀️ I don't know why but since we had all the construction work back in France when he was younger, he loves loud noises. Sometimes, they are even painfully loud for our human ears but Ramses will want to watch and hear - case in point when they were taking down our steel banister with a hammer. Ramses sat so close - but it was such an awful loud noise.

LOL about the police car. I’m sure the policeman enjoyed it. Logan once found a lost phone in a field and we made sure it made it back to its owner — no police shenanigans involved for us. Boo.

I’m sorry Ramses is feeling poorly. I hope the metro clears things up.

Logan's a good boy 😊 he probably would wait for you to let him into the police car! Ramses on the other hand, what can I say.. he thrives on chaos, people shouting foul words on TV (Succession is coming again tonight) and Saddam Hussein documentaries.. 🙈

Thank you! He's been doing alright on the metro and I hope this nasty bacteria is dead and gone after he's off the metronidazole...

@GrandmaToGoldens, sorry I failed to mention this earlier & congratulations to Eva and you! 😊

@GoldenRetieverL0ver08 I’m so sorry that I missed your post about your relative - that’s awful news, I’m glad you are able to be there for them.

@Sankari now you have a great idea for Ramses at Halloween - he can be a policeman!

@ everybody - I love seeing all of the updates of everything everyone does, and the banter and convos, so don’t consider this my thread at all .. it’s organically the whole community’s (that wants to participate).

We had a fun weekend. I was eager for Bitsy to swim in the pool. She wasn’t ready last summer (she was such a little girl, I don’t know why I thought she would be). Anyway, she’s ready now, and the lake trip we took a few weeks back f really helped give her confidence! The pool has steps in the shallow end, so I had to get her oriented to those. Unfortunately (for me) I had to get in there to do that and it was 60 degrees (F). But that did the trick and soon she was launching off the steps to do quick retrieves for a rubber stick that I got her. I love watching her swim!

Then later we had a belated joint birthday party because her BFF turned 1 this past week, so now both girls are a year old, and a month apart. They are thick as thieves and this photo belies the total chaos that was the birthday party. Running and rolling and swimming and having a few fun snacks!

@Sankari glad to hear Ramses is feeling better! And Denver also loves our town cop and any police car, firetruck or ambulance that she sees!
@bitsybama sounds like Bitsy and her friend had a lot of fun! Denver and Tucker havent swam yet, but i dont really have a place.

@bitsybama, thank you 🙏🏽😊 I didn't want to hijack this thread with Ramses' digestive/bloody diarrhea woes.. Bitsy looks like she's having lots of fun!!! I love the picture of both dogs - with the smiles! 🤩

@GoldenRetieverL0ver08 - haha I bet Denver is a sweet girl.. Ramses' tail was swishing so hard at the sight of the cop, it might have got detached from his butt 🤣🤣🙈

I forgot to mention that we celebrated with a dog cake that Perry’s family made - suitable for people and dogs. It was really delicious! Here is the recipe if anyone is interested in making:

Pumpkin Dog Cake

There were some nut allergies in the gang of humans so I am told that swapping in vegetable oil (for coconut) and regular milk (for almond milk) was the move there.

I had one and it was very delicious!

@Sankari Denver gets so exicted when she sees people usally. I sometimes cant get her to settle down. Im not sure her tail wags as fast as Ramses, but it still hurts when her happy tail hits my leg.🤣

@bitsybama thanks for the recipe! Ill have to make it for Denver or Tuckers Birthday! Last year for Denvers Birthday, i made a cake and it wasnt human edible, so i ended up giving some of it to our neighbors dog(which are never took care of and apparently being turned in a ton doesnt help). Then to Denvers brother. And i still had a bunch left over

Today we went for our ultrasound appointment - I was a bunch of nerves, Ramses was overjoyed though. He just left with the technicians happily (not even a glance backwards) while my husband and I were left to wait... My worst worry was he wouldn't cooperate because it was a morning appointment and he had been fasted for 12 hours. He didn't run or do anything significant yet and he would be super excited. Not to mention he doesn't respond to English 🙄 I apologized in advance to everyone that Ramses might not cooperate... 20 mins later Ramses had been shaved and already completed his ultrasound.

The results are there's nothing wrong with him -no thickening of walls, no residual stuff left in him.. they also checked his reproductive organs and lymph nodes and everything was just fine. Thank God 🙏🏽😊 Just probably due to the bacteria (clostridium perfringens) and he's probably a bit sensitive now and he should be fine. We should be more careful that he doesn't pick up anything of course.

The extremely shocking and surprising part was the radiologist and the techs said that he was a very good boy and extremely cooperative in English 🤔 I told them it's ok to tell me he wasn't a good boy and didn't listen.. And they insisted he was.. Hmm so clearly Ramses understands English but chooses to respond only to Americans and not us 😫 After the appointment, Ramses was trying to leave with the radiologist and the tech 🙈 and they said normally that doesn't happen because dogs are slightly traumatized - well not ours apparently 🤦🏽‍♀️😂
