Go Lily and Jake!! 😀🥳 Were there poison blinds in the open?
First series was a triple mark, two retired.
A land blind will probably be next. Don't know yet if there will be a poison bird.

If there's a poison bird, I am sure Jake's learnt his lesson from the last time...He's a smart dog and I'm rooting for him..! 💪🏽

Worked on getting in heel and side positions in a very tight space. She still needs more practice with this. But it’s an important skill so worth all the effort and I appreciate the folks on our elevator rides who endured us practicing this skill in a real world environment. 8 more months together before she leaves so plenty of time to practice and get better.

Sometimes, it’s all about what you did for dogs or other people’s dogs. Flew four future service dog puppies to their puppy raisers today.

Everybody has to find their own passion with dogs - whatever sport or activity that is. For us, it’s all about puppy raising and transporting puppies to their volunteer puppy raisers.

We had a breeder (retired now) owned by the service dog organization. We whelped her litters. A puppy from one of her litters was eventually selected as a breeder. She’s the momma of that black puppy. So, he’s our grandpuppy. What a joy to fly him to the waiting arms of his excited puppy raiser.

Jake did not get called back after the land blind yesterday. I don't know why.
Lily got a JAM in the Q. It was the toughest Q I have ever seen.
This was the water blind. About 100 yards to the water entry, down the shore another 150 then 75 yards out of water to the blind. I have ran many all age blinds that were not this tough. Out of 39 dogs that ran, all but 6 were handled by pros.

Jake ran in the am today, very good in the 1st series marks and 2nd series land blind. Water blind in the morning.

Jake did not call back???!!!!😯😯😯 I have so much to say..!!! Will you ever know at some point why? That's a lot of pros vs owner handler, same in France too.. I am assuming they need the pros to get the dogs to the next level + refine the dog's innate skill/intelligence.. Wishing Jake another successful day tomorrow 💪🏽

**Congratulations to Lily on her award of merit!! She's a smart girl and definitely well deserved! 😄

Since the weather was really warm and sunny this morning, we all went to Pittock Mansion and Hoyt arboretum to check out a view of Mount Hood. Then we headed to Nob Hill, 5 mins from downtown Portland.. went to shop, had lunch and coffee before heading home. Ramses had a lot of attention the entire day - people asking for pets and someone even wanted a picture with Ramses for their wedding 😂🤣 I never thought of my golden as photography worthy by others... I am afraid all of this is getting into Ramses' head...🤦🏽‍♀️

He was well behaved and was also allowed into a cafe by the owner but I declined his offer. I felt that it would be disrespectful for service dogs and the training they have to undergo..

However, just as we were leaving to return to our car to go home, he nearly got attacked by an Irish setter which repeatedly lunged at him while barking aggressively. This is the actual first time I heard Ramses bark back and stand his ground - and it was such a loud bark 😯😳 Odd for us because he never barks or returns a bark.. All in all an eventful day for us 😊

I did not ask and probably would've disagreed with the answer anyway. That's the way it goes sometimes. I'm sure not everyone agrees with my judging decisions either.

Ramses is so handsome!
The only time Denver ever barks is if she feels threatened or ajother dog she doesnt like approaches. I don't encourage the barking, but do praise her for standing her ground.

@Sankari that’s a beautiful view from the Pittock Mansion! We visited Portland about 5 years ago and had a wonderful time. Do they allow dogs at the rose garden? Those would be some great Ramses shots if so! What a great food town Portland is. I ate my way through it - good thing we walked a lot!

We had a lazy Sunday here and hosted our extended family dog Winthorpe for a play date. Good practice for Bitsy to take a few time outs. I was monitoring to make sure it was balanced play. She’s not quite 1, he’s 4, and he’s very patient. He did put her in her place a few times and she deserved it. I could see her learning from him, which was interesting. After a while, she did what he did, she took his lead, she stopped bothering him when he didn’t want to be bothered, and just chilled and/or stared at him lovingly, which was great.

Thank you for your compliments - we shouldn't inflate the ego of Ramses 🤣 I think Ramses needs to have normal experiences - Not riding in police cars and crashing people's weddings 🤣 I was extremely worried he would trample and trip the beautiful bride in her lovely dress/ruin it with slobber or dirt.. I did clean him with wipes anyway. But she kept telling me it was fine - I really hope he didn't put some dirty paw prints on her dress.. 🫣

My husband was also saying that the setter started it first and Ramses didn't like that. I was concerned because I didn't want people to think he's also an aggressive dog especially since it was a narrow footpath that we were on.. Normally I would try to avoid other dogs but it was a crowded Saturday afternoon - so I couldn't just cross over the road or move back.

@bitsybama unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the rose garden and it looked so beautiful in pictures. We will have to leave Ramses to visit 😔 Portland is indeed a great place for food - very much like my home/birth country Singapore.. I have been unable to return home for the past 3 years due to COVID, work etc. So I'm glad we got the opportunity to come to Portland 😅 The walking around the city/metro like you say definitely helps - because there is always something we want to try...

Can you see the remarks of the judges regarding their decision when it's all over? 😯

Judges typically draw a rough sketch of the tests and what each dog did, when they were handled, etc. If you question why you were not called back it must be through the stake marshal who will then ask the judges. The judges will state a reason but are under no obligation to share their notes.

Jake did well on the water blind and was one of 17 called back to the 4th. His water marks were excellent, only 12 completed the test and 6 of them had to be handled to at least one mark.
Earned Reserve JAM (5th place) for his efforts.

I am wondering if it's the same in France/Europe.. - if memory serves me well, we are able to understand why the judges decide to not call back a dog. This is so that you can improve the next time but I must clarify this. That's such a pity though that they are under no obligation to reveal their reasons.. I personally detest that because I'm an academic at heart and for me learning from mistakes and debating reasons for judging is important to improve... Admittedly, my thinking here might not be appropriate for field trials.

Congratulations on the JAM for you and Jake! 😊 that's a fantastic achievement with all the fierce competition out there..

Judges will usually give a reason but it might be vague.
