Any ideas of something that can be used at doors for those muddy paws/bodies to somewhat contain the mess from all over the house. Braided rugs??? I only buy cheap rugs that I can throw in the wash and they'll ignore them for months and then decide to chew them when left alone for under 3 hours. Those soggy dog rugs??

Never do so when I'm at home so I get that it's a 'I miss you, I'm bored thing'. I have hardwood floors throughout and it seems like all I do is vacuum/wash floors. Any thoughts, advice or is this a losing battle?

There's always an old towel... When it's wet/muddy out, I have Luna "wait" in the doorway standing on top of an old towel. She's allowed in the house after her feet get rubbed down. There's always some additional play with the towel...

I also always have an old towel at the entry door for Tuff to wait on and dry him off when the weather is wet. Nothing ever seems to work flawlessly though. Something we must live with. :)

I have a stack of towels at each door. She gets her paws wiped almost every single time she comes in (well, not in dry weather), and if she's very wet or muddy, she gets a whole towelling down before she comes in, and sometimes a brushing out, and sometimes, she gets carried right upstairs to the tub! :) And on those bad days, an extra towel goes over the blanket on the couch, too.

Others have given you lots of information about rugs. For the mess that gets tracked through the house, I heartily recommend Capture rug and carpet cleaning products. There is minimal liquid involved so the cleaning is quick and a vacuum cleaner takes up the dirt. I was absolutely amazed when the stuff took out stains that had been set for months.

Well glad to know I'm in the same boat as others with a myriad of towels by both doors. I swear I do more dog laundry than personal. Oh for sunny weather soon. Thanks for the tips on the cleaning products and some rugs to consider although the towel route means I'm in good company. Yeah!!!
