Hi all,
Question for all of you, because some weird things have been happening to my golden retriever Henry... He's 3 years old and full of love and joy.
It started about a week ago, and does not happen every morning, but it has been happening maybe once every two days. In the morning, he wakes us up with either dry heaving or vomiting. If he does vomit, it's mostly bile. Usually, it has been happening right before feeding (30 minutes or so before), so I am guessing it's just his stomach getting excited about food.
However, last night, he woke us vomiting at 3:30 am, 5am and again at 8:30. We gave him Pepto Bismol at 5am to see if it would make a difference. We are now withholding food and I am working from home. The only thing I gave him was beef broth (specifically for dogs Honest Kitchen brand) to make sure he stayed hydrated and he is STARVING and a big ball of energy!
Now, I think he will be fine once I feed him (waiting to make sure the beef broth stays put) but I would love to figure out the cause of why this is happening pretty frequently.
Two notes - we have a doggy friend staying with us. Could it be stress due to him getting some of our love and affection?
- we have the air conditioning running all night because it is HOT outside. And I do sometimes get a dry throat and wake up coughing. Could that be doing something to make him dry heave and eventually vomit?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Deborah
