Dakota still has a UTI and we are hoping she goes in heat soon, but for now still more medication. The vet suggestion making sure she is getting enough water. I know as a puppy we were instructed to take her water away at a certain time before bed for fearing of accident/ not being able to hold it. She has access to a water bottle in the crate all the time. But now she is potty trained and even goes on command. So I am wondering was there a point when you just left the water down all the time, or do you limit it for their whole life. She drinks probably 100 ounces of a water a day. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I never took up Bailey's water, she always has access to it. Bailey does most of her drinking during the day. I fill her water dish about 3-4 times a day.

While she still has the UTI I would be taking up the water in the early evening. Once the UTI has cleared you should be able to leave water down all the time for her. I fill my guys bowls a couple of times per day.

I've never restricted water with any of my puppies. I can't remember with Maggie but Hank never wet in his crate even at 5 1/2 weeks old.

I never took up the water bowl with any of my pups. For right now, I would keep the bowl down and just take her out more often. Do you use the baby wipes to wipe her after pottying? That might help keep the bacteria out too, if you dont. Hopefully this will be her last UTI.

Hi, I saw your post, just wanted to offer some advice. I went through this with my dog also. One suggestion that I got from the forum was to add chicken broth to her food to make her drink more water. This worked really well and I definitely saw her water intake increase.

I did have to take Maddie's water away because if I didn't she would have an accident. I would try adding the chicken broth to her food so that she will drink more water during the day ...

Something that has also worked really well for us is a supplement called "Cran-Tri-C" by Nature's Farmacy. If you do a search for it you should be able to find the information. Maddie has been on it for a long time now (the powder is concentrated and lasts really long) and she really seems a lot better.

Good luck! I know it's frustrating!
