Has anyone been in forest when tree starts to fall over. Seen one around 3 years ago. Scared the heck out of me. Today in forest the trees were making a snapping noise. -11 From cold and wind. Keeps you on your toes.

Can't say that I have seen that, but I can imagine how startling that would be! I have heard all the popping and snapping noises in the cold, though. Kind of creepy!

I have been there when a tree starts to go, really scary!
The noise that always freaked me out the most was the booming cracking (like a baseball bat) noises of a frozen lake! My brother used to freak me out my jumping up and down on them, even when the ice was 12+ inches thick I was sure it was going to break!

You were in pretty good shape jumping up and down on 12 inches...4 inches and you can park a truck on it, not my truck mind you, but this is the common wisdom.:)

I remember a really bad windstorm 12/14/2007 that for 8 hours we had winds from 70 mph with gusts of up to 100 mph. All night we were up listening to the trees crashing. Huge Douglas firs. Watched the transformers blow all night all the way to Seattle. At 6 the next morning the trees were all over the roads and the power lines were snapped from the top. Took 3 weeks to get our power back. That was very frightening.

I live in Washington. It's what the trees do here. Everyone has a list of all the trees on their neighbors' lots that will someday fall on their houses.

I had one fall on my property a few years ago. The whole house bounced. Another time the neighbor's tree fell on our fence. We had barely opened our window to look, when he screamed from his yard, "I called the insurance company. Your company has to pay for it."

I live in the woods. They do make a strange sound when they come down. My favorite thing is when one falls on another, and branches will rub together when the wind is right. Sounds like the trees are singing to me.
