my 3 year old British Golden Retriever had (Extracapsular Repair) ACL surgery 3 weeks ago on her right leg and did beautifully; a few days ago she sustained an injury and we thought she had damaged that leg again when in fact it appears she now has an ACL tear in the left leg, both at once. We are exploring TPLO in the left leg and taking her see a specialist next week to evaluate/test, etc. We are of the opinion there may be genetic issues involved for this to happen. We are exploring all options and want to do what is best for our dog, giving her the most comfort and mobility for the remainder of her life. Anyone with any experience with this happening with both legs at once, your comments and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

First, welcome to GRF. I'm so sorry your dog is going through two at the same time. I really have no advice but wanted to welcome you.

Oh... poor pup and poor you! Actually, I don't think it's that uncommon to have an ACL injury in both legs. Initially, upon injuring the one leg, it adds extra strain on the other leg b/c of how the dog favors the injured leg.

I don't have experience with BOTH at the same time. The surgeon till tell me after Skyler's surgery the most important thing was NO jumping up for at least 5-6 months onto anything - regardless of height.
