Toffee is a healthy 3 1/2 year old pure bred, and has never had any problems. Just this morning we woke up to find her having troubles getting up and then using her hind legs, especially on stairs. She still is interested in food and playing, but can't really do much of either because she's in pain. Going to call the vet very soon, but was hoping for some advice because she is so young

many thanks

thanks so much everyone!

we're a little worried because the vet is closed until Monday ( it is Saturday now) and Toffee may be worse by then, or better. We don't think this is an emergency enough to call the vets emergency hotline

gave the emergency line a call, and he said that most likely its something like a sprain and to give her an aspirin and see if it helps.

gave Toffee the pill and a few minutes later shes begging for treats again! she's still not as energetic as she usually is, but much better.

Do try to keep her from overdoing. Often when a dog (or human) doesn't feel pain due to meds, they overdo and make the injury worse. When my golden girl KayCee was 16 months she started limping really bad, trouble getting up--luxating patella. Surgery and she never had a problem with that knee again. But 14 months later, she did have to have same surgery on other knee, and again, neer another problem.

Hope your girl just has a little strain or sprain and is fine soon.
