Hi guys...so lately I've been looking for a new crate for Maddie. And on a Yahoo! Group I posted that I was looking for a Cabana Crate. Sadly, the DoggoneGood company no longer makes them...so I was really surprised that people responded..saying that they had some that they would be willing to sell me. I found a lady who lives in Wisconsin, and said she has an XL one...that is PURPLE...(favorite color!), and that we can meet at the dog show on Sunday for it.

The ONLY..tiny detail that I got scared of..was the price! It is new and is still in the original wrapping..etc. She said she'd sell it to me for $180 and she paid 20 dollars for shipping...so I'm not 100% sure if she wants me to pay the shipping cost as well, haven't gotten a clarification on that one yet.

So...my question is...do you think that it's a buy...or no? I really LOVE the Cabana crates..oh yeah...and it's the newer version that they came out a few years before they started to discontinue the line.

Maddie's crate that she has now is too small for her and is showing it's age of about 6 years....things are starting to wear down...etc.

Thanks a bunch!

If you don't want to pay that much, there are several other manufacturers who make the same style crate for much less. Doggone Good was the first one to put a soft, folding crate on the market. Many others now offer them, which is why Doggone Good no longer sells them.

I'm assuming you're looking for a 36" size? Try the Noz2Noz brand.

Well...I would LOVE one..and I'd be willing to pay half..and my parents pay the other half.

I've tried that Noz2Noz brand and I didn't like it as much. The 36 we already have and Maddie likes to be able to curl up or spread out in the crate...so this one is a few inches bigger than what we have.

There's a version that's made just like the Doggone Good one... I think it's in the www.petedge.com catalog. It's definitely like half the price and I've seen them in person - they're nicely made and come in a size larger than 36". I think the next size up from 36" is 42". But if you're okay paying the Doggone Good prices, than go for it and get the one from the other exhibitor. I just personally don't want to spend that much for something I don't use everyday... and I feel a bit like I'm paying for the "name brand," which I'm not a fan of doing either.

And just a thought... if you have a perfectly good 36" crate... maybe you save the money for other things? She may *like* to stretch out, but she doesn't *need* to - especially when she's only in the soft crate a small percentage of her time. My 36" soft crate is showing signs of wear too, but so long as it keeps the dog in it, I'm using it!

I'd probably say no. I have three cabana crates in various stages of still operating. My newer style one is broke for the second time -- that frame has too much stress on it with opening and closing. I've ordered a few replacement parts but I think I've pretty much bought another crate in replacement parts. I really love the cabana crates and Cisco is going to hate to give up his sunroof, but I'm not sure how much longer they're going to remain in use.

I know there is a lot of other agility stuff I'd rather spend $180 on. Especially if you already have a crate that works. I'm sure she's perfectly comfortable in the one she has.

Agreed -- that is way expensive -- and I LOVE the Noz2Noz crates, I have four of them.
There is a seller on eBay I've purchased them from for a reasonable price.
A golden bitch should be just fine in a 36".

We have this travel crate and LOVE it. We use it everywhere! And even the bigger size is cheaper than what you are looking at paying. FetchDog always has 20% coupons, so I waited for one of those to buy. I love that it opens on all sides - we use it at hotels, in the car, and occasionally in the house if we need something quick, which we really don't anymore. But it gets two paws up from us - I'd buy another in a heart beat. Not to sound like an ad, but after looking, buying and returning 3 others, I was thrilled to find this one. It's easy to use and set it, and it's not heavy.

Okay...so thanks for all the replies back..but the thing is...at one time we bought a noz2noz one and I didn't like it...it seemed to dark and I like the sun roof ones....

But really...here's the other question i have..did they REALLY cost that much back then? Especially with the newer version of them?? I'm not sure if she is telling us the truth......... =[

You're not the one who'll be IN the N2N crate, so why does it matter if YOU think it was dark? Perhaps the dog likes it that way! But really, it sounds like you've already made up your mind, so why are you asking?

If money is no object, than get what you want. If it is, I think you have an awful lot of experienced people suggesting you spend your obedience dollars elsewhere.

Hmm...well I'm asking because I'm still not sure what to do..things are still bouncing around in there....I do have a good deal to introduce to my parnets...by paying for half of it and working the rest off by chores...etc. :\

Really? You'd want to work off money you owe your parents for a crate when you already have one that works? What are you going to do when the 3rd time you use it it breaks and you need to buy a replacement part for it? (yes this happened to me.) The first time it broke I didn't get charged for the replacement part because apparently a lot of the frames were damaged in shipping resulting in them breaking the first time they were used. Yes, the one you're looking at may never have been used, but it might have been damaged in shipping. Those parts are not the easiest thing to replace -- changing them usually results in a few choice words from my husband. I need to order the replacement part again.

Personally after owning them, even though I love them, I'd have a hard time paying $180 for one even if I didn't have to work it off. There are so many other alternatives these days. I'd be looking for something that was lighter weight and easier to lug around if you really want to spend money on a crate.

I'll also add that learning to be happy with what you have is a great life lesson! :)

Oh yeah, that's the name... Couldn't think of it before. It's the most like the Doggone Good crates. But um, didn't you just say you didn't like the N2N one b/c you thought it was too dark?
