Farley (11wks) has been with us for a month. Fergus (2yrs) loves his little brother.

BUT it seems that Fergus isn't his old self he seems to be sad or maybe he is just tired? I'm not sure. Kaye and I have talked about this and before the pup all the Fergus "play energy" was directed at us now the pup gets all that attention.

We actually have to put the pup in his crate to give Fergus some time off or the pup will pester him to death. We can tell because Fergus will make a sound while playing with the pup that seems to us like he is complaining about having to entertain his brother.

I think as Farley gets a little older Fergus may be ok with telling him off but at this stage Fergus is so gentle with Farley, he just won't back off.

I think just tired. Giving them time outs is a good idea. Sometimes the puppys just dont know when to say when.

Sometimes when we have foster pups, they pester at Danny all the time. He is super wonderful with them and will play with them every chance he gets. But there are times I can tell he is ready for a real break. I will take him to the petstore or to work with me to give him a break and some one-on-one time with me. That seems to perk him back up.

I will say that Jasper gets kind of bent out of shape when we have fosters because it messes up his normal routine. And he doesn't like anything to mess up his normal routine! It took him a couple of months to truly LIKE Danny when Danny was a foster pup. He tolerated him and even played with him, but he didn't really "like" him. Once he did though, he and Danny became the very best of friends!

He may be both. Adjusting to a puppy is BIG for everyone! Selka was almost 4 when we got Gunner. He loved him and was wonderful with him but he was also stressed.
I really tried to give him alone time and lot of individual attention but wish I'd done better looking back. His face practically turned gray over night and he lost weight back during that time also. (the graying could have been genetic since Gunner grayed at the same age) but I know it was a stressful time for him.

By looking at my profile pic, taken at that time, you'd think it was perfect. : )
