I lost my cockatiel Maverick on November 3rd after only 5 months together. He went off his food one night, wouldn't accept even millet, and the next morning he just plummeted. I woke up to find him struggling to stay on his perch and he had been vomiting. My Dad called the emergency vet immediately, but my Mavvy boy seized and passed on to the rainbow bridge just as we were heading out the door.
He was a rehome who had been in 3 previous homes before coming to stay with me. He was only 2 years old when he passed. Much, much too young. We still don't know why it happened. :( That's what bothers me most. He had a varied diet of seed, pellets, and fresh veggies daily. His cage was always kept immaculately clean. I was always very careful not to have anywhere near any harmful substances, and my mom even stopped using aresols, candles, and we don't have any teflon cookware.

On November 22nd I saw that an 8 yr old female tiel had been surrendered to our high kill shelter. I wasn't looking for another bird, especially after losing my little fid so recently. But I went there, met her, fell in love and knew Maverick would have wanted me to rescue her.
So this is Missy. She's very sweet towards me, but is definitely a one-person bird right now. She's slowly warming up to my Dad. [Maverick was his buddy - I think it might've hit him even harder than me.]
I adopted Missy and brought her home. She had a lot of excess oil coming from her preen gland, but a change of diet helped that. Once the weather warms up, she's going in for a wellness check to make sure all is well. Our daily routine is scritches for 10 minutes minimum in the morning, fresh veggies on top of cage or at the table with me, fly a few laps around the room, and the rest of the day is spent playing on top of the cage, sitting on my shoulder while I work in the house, or exploring the computer table. She has to have her little beak into everything. LOVES to be a part of daily activity.

Scritches, please!

Thank you both very much! ^^
Missy is a jewel <3 Just last night, she took a huge step forward by asking my aunt for scritches! And this morning she did the same with my Dad. (Which I'm so thankful for - he's still pretty upset about losing Maverick. they were best buds.)
Since I got her, she's only been friendly and affectionate towards me. She usually hisses or squawks at anyone else who comes near.

Forgot to mention, who is singing the song in your video, its beautiful.
That was Toby Keith singing "Cryin' for Me". :)

So sorry to hear about your Maverick. And, congratulations on finding Missy.

I had a cockatiel named Sam back in the late 70s. We had to rehome him when DH got orders for Europe. Sam had a lot of personality!
