I have to admit that lab shocked me. It was so tubby.
Probably gained a half a pound in that short video.

That look is terrible. Way too thick.

Don’t you know they need all that fat to keep them warm in the icy waters 😉
This one could have survived the Titanic sinking, if the sudden activity from swimming didn't cause cardiac arrest.

A few dogs that fat onboard would’ve sunk the Titanic before it hit the iceberg.

I just find it so sad, in my years of dog sitting, there were very few dogs that weren't overfed , and every one of the owners understood that it's unhealthy to say the least, but the will to keep the dogs at a healthy weight just didn't seem to be there and the "treats" just kept coming. :(

Yeah I struggle to understand that. People KNOW it's so unhealthy and dangerous but do it anyway.

Unfortunately, there are many that do nothing with their dogs aside from go for walks, feed them and give them treats.

This is so sad, I wonder if that lab gets to run at all or even can 😕 That's such a travesty to the breed...

@JerseyChris: I'm sure your daughter was amazing - sorry I don't know where or how to watch this here in France.. Congratulations to her 😊

@JerseyChris , I set the show to record to catch her and was now able to see it. She did an outstanding job. I’m sure you are beaming with pride as are we your fellow forum group. We will be seeing more of this poised young lady.

If it's not geofenced to North America, you can see her here (I missed the TV coverage, so went to find it):

If I'm not mistaken (and man, I hope I'm not!), she is at the 6:53 minute mark. So impressive. @JerseyChris , how old was she when she started showing dogs? Does she have a favourite breed?

Thanks for the video..! 😅 we don't have NBC sports here in France or I'm not sure if it's not in the paid package that we chose... anyway moving soon means I'll be able to catch them live next time 😊

@JerseyChris you must be very proud dad, what a lovely young woman, is she thinking about becoming a professional handler ?

It amazes me how many dogs are way over weight. My wife manages a boarding kennel and it the groomer and I have had to do over there many times to help lift dogs in and out of the tub and on the grooming table. She has a lot of Golden clients and sad to say most are way over weight. :(

She has more so lately been thinking about that. When she was younger she just wanted to be a Vet so we will see what path she chooses. She is only 12 so there is plenty of time to really think about her career path but which ever way she goes it will most certainly involve dogs.

We have had her at dog shows since she was a baby. There is no minimum age to show dogs in the breed ring so she started there around 7-8 a little bit and once she turned 9 she started doing the AKC Junior competition which she can do until her 18th Bday. She was born and raised around Collies but I got the family into Goldens which we all love now so our 2 breeds are Collies and Goldens currently.

Oh! I saw your daughter and both collies! They were so professional! I had never seen smooth-coated collies before. They're pretty.

You daughter has poise and grace. She and her dog are a nice team. The German shepherd has downed pasterns. How did that one get into the show?

I have looked into getting a Lab but the pet lines are so fat. Hunting Labs have so much energy, although they look sleek and fit.
