Boomer is 6 1/2 months old and still has puppy legs and a bit uncoordinated. He has great difficulty getting in my cars as they are all SUV's and high. I thought I'd be clever and try to teach him to jump as he's getting some anxiety with autos and would like to go in a different direction. BTW, he can bound up on to our porch (5 steps) when I toss a toy or ball, but can't make the jump into SUV rear so think he has some prior bad memories of SUV.


The specific question is, what are some good tricks of the trade, teaching a dog to jump e.g. hurdles?

No jumping yet. Immature joints. Could cause an injury if not careful.

Well, there's a thought I never considered. Thank you! So, continue using the embarrassing ramp to get him in SUV. :crying:Or, helping his butt in by lifting his hind less, double embarrassing. LOL

Might as well get him used to having his butt boosted.

My Jacks is still spry enough, but he will stand halfway up into our Explorer and wait to get the butt boost getting up over the seat.
