My pup had some sticky sap between the toes (pads). I trimmed the hair and tried to use some oil to get it out. They were already slightly red.

Now that I cut too much hair out (oops ) I check her paws and they are still red and sticky (even after bath). They are much cleaner now but still moist. I wonder if it's because there's not much hair to keep the pads separated and dry?

Took her to the grass / gravel and she will actually limp on there. Regular surface she is ok. Any suggestions for treating or at least help keep them dry?

I have no idea but it could be that because you clipped the hair closer than she is used to, it could be more sensitive. So it may not be that it hurts but rather it "feels funny" on the grass thus the limping. Just a passing thought.
