Z has a black spot, approximately 1/2 inch diameter, on the underside of his ear. It's been there since he came home with us four months ago. It looks like ink! Any ideas what it might be?

If it doesn't wash off, it's probably just pigment and nothing to worry about.

I agree, it's most likely pigment. Ike has freckles inside of one earflap only. I still see it and think his ears are dirty.
