It will be so interesting to watch the differences in their development. Love those comparison photos. Are the two sires very different from each other (in terms of size, build, pigment, etc)? Obviously, they both conform to standard, but what are their differences? With Splash and Summer so closely related, it will be cool to see what the dads bring to the mix.

I'd love to see pictures of Delta too, since I believe she has the same Dad as Summer's current litter. A bit like seeing what Summer's litter will (hopefully) look like when they get older. Super cool to be able to compare!

Well, it's not polite to publicly post comparisons of stud dogs, so I won't do that. But I will say that Gibbs had dark pigment from the moment he was born, and his puppies do, too (at least this litter does, I don't know about the other litters he has sired). Here is Gibbs the moment he was born. Look at the pigment.

Oh, I found a birthday picture of another another litter Gibbs sired. You can see the good pigment in this litter, too.

So I guess this is a trait Gibbs passes on.

Not only does Delta have the same sire, she has the same dam, too. Delta is a full sibling to Summer's current litter. Here is Delta at 6 mos. and 2 days old, winning Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best Opposite.

Aww! I remember watching her on the puppy cam!
Quick update:

All of Splash's puppies have their eyes open and they are "walking," though it's more like staggering around like drunken sailors. :D They have also found their voices. I'll upload a video clip in a bit, when I get to my other computer. They're getting pretty stinkin' cute! :)

Hi
I am enjoying watching both litters, thank you for the double viewing! I have noticed the colorful blankets in the whelping boxes and was wondering if that is a way to introduce different textures (fuzzy, embossed, knitted etc)? Or is it a matter of practicality? And the plush animals - to give the puppies an obstacle to crawl over/around like a problem solving skill?
Thank you!

Aww! I love when puppies just start to get their voices

Hey there. The colorful blankets are just another surface for them to sleep, walk, pee and poop on, having little to do with texture at this point. We have layers. These are from fabric Theresa found at a thrift store. She liked them and brought them home for the whelping boxes.

The stuffed animals are the first in what will be an ongoing series of objects that get put in the whelping box to start to develop the little puppy brains. At first, they are just something that is not mommy. It helps them get familiar with the idea that there are other things in the world, and as you say forces them to negotiate the objects and solve problems. Also, they tend to snuggle up against them when mama isn't in the box. You'll see that as time progresses, they get more things, different things, in a progressively challenging and stimulating environment. And they're cute. :)

Whelping means giving birth. Do you mean weaning? If so, the litters will start to be weaned about 9 days apart. Splash's litter will get their first gruel this weekend.

Yes i meant weaning. Sorry. So they will be kept seperated? Because of the 9 days apart

We will likely put them together at some point. Maybe when the youngest litter is 4-5 weeks old.

They sleep like this during the day, but they're a bunch of screaming banshees all night long. Sigh...

Sure are cute when they're sleeping though. :D

Now I can't move. I'm stuck with this boy on my arm until he wakes up. It's too cute to move.

FYI Splash's litter will get their first gruel on Sunday at noon Pacific time, live on video. Sometimes it is hilarious, as puppies roll in the food dish and otherwise find ways to wear it. OTOH, sometimes they actually eat their first meal. We'll see. And you can too! Sunday May 28, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. PDT (approximately).
