Hey,

Would any of yall purchase a puppy from a breeder that lives by their self (no husband, kids, etc.) and keeps their puppies in the basement until eight weeks? Although they are a part of the GRCA recommended breeders to call. Also, all their dogs absolutely adore visitors and have won titles in shows.
Let me know if this would be ok.

Thanks!

I guess it would depend on what she does with them. How often she gets them out to play and/or has people over.

If she has all the clearances and you are comfortable with the puppy's ability to relate to people, then I don't see a problem. If they appeared frightened by strangers or loud noises, if they spook or shy easily then I would consider that a big warning sign. Not that you shouldn't get one but than YOU will have to do a lot of socializing to make up for their lack of exposure to the world.

I guess it would depend on what the basement is like, and what she has done so far to socialize the puppies. They really can't go out and about a lot due to their age, but I would expect that they have been to the vet at least once, been on several different surfaces, eaten off different surfaces, been exposed to loud noises, visitors, etc. It's pretty cold for them to have been outside, unless you are in a warmer climate.

Are the puppies clean, with plenty of space and toys to play with?

It sounds as though her adult dogs are well-socialised and I would assume that they had the same upbringing as this litter.

It depends, as Tahnee said, on what you bring into the basement. If there are no people and no unfamiliar stimuli, it could be a problem.
