I noticed Bridget do this a few times during the last couple of weeks, it's like she snorting inwards...in fact I can make the same snort noise if I suck in through my nose hard..........

Hazel does something similiar. It sometimes sounds almost like a snore. She also has a habit, if she's bored and wants attention, of kind of make a sighing sound...which gets louder and louder until you acknowledge her existence
Probably reverse sneezing and like said above, harmless. Some dogs do it and some never do. I have a yorkie that does it every few days and it sounds horrible, but she is fine. If I place my finger over her nostrils (gently) it makes her breathe out her mouth and it quits. Vet said (and laughed) it wouldn't hurt her at all to do this.
Calvin used to have episodes every day, now that he is older (3), he occasional does it. It is very scary if you don't know what it is! If you cover the nose, they have to stop to take a breath. It can break the cycle.
