Hello! We are having some trouble finding a responsible breeder around VA. I stumbled across Smokey Mountain English Goldens on a Facebook group and we are considering them. I've googled them and searched here but can't find anything.

I'm getting better at looking up health clearances since we almost got scammed, but I don't have a lot of confidence in my knowledge. I know eyes should be evaluated once a year, but what about everything else? How do these two look as far as sire and dam? Willow's parentage isn't listed on OFA, but it is on k9data.

From the US Ethical Breeder List Masterthread, here are a list of ethical breeders in VA... I wouldn't personally touch an imported dog or a litter out of an imported dog with a ten foot pole unless you're a VERY experienced puppy buyer... plus there is no such thing as an "English" or "English Creme" golden. In addition, they boast that their dogs are Champions/Champion bloodlines but likely have never put a CH title on a dog in the US, or in any other country.

Technically the breeder is in compliance because all of the necessary clearances are present on the sire and dam, but the pedigree doesn’t have a solid history of clearances. The sire’s pedigree has pretty much no clearances except for his sire. Willow isn’t on OFA because her parents don’t have OFA testing at all. There are claims of foreign clearances back there on k9data, but 🤷‍♂️

In essence, it could be worse, but it could be much better. If you want to reach out to some better breeders using better pedigrees, below is a VA breeder list (and lists for every state).
