Hi admin!

Is it possible to make a poster's signature show up with only their first post in each thread and automatically disable it afterwards? I know we have the option to do so manually, but not many people are aware of it and remember to use it.

It would help make the site more "work-friendly", load faster, and make it easier on those who are viewing on small screens.

Honestly, lots of the time when I'm looking for a post by someone within a thread I'm looking for their signature to find it. It's more visual and I can't ever remember someone's name on the forum, but I remember their signature. Maybe better way to do it is limit the height allowed for signature images/space?

I agree with this and feel that a reasonable size limit on signatures would be great.

I hear what you're saying, I do the same thing too, and I love everyone's signatures but it is a pain sometimes when I'm browsing on a small screen or trying to keep it in the background at work.

There is a limit for the size of signature pictures that you can upload, but as the majority of the large ones are linked to external sites like photobucket, they show up as whatever size they are on that site.

That's why something like a 400 pixel height maximum might work better. If their picture is taller than that it would get cut off, or not be allowed. It would force people to keep them smaller or design them to be wider rather than high. I'm not sure if it's possible on this forum, but on other forms I've been a member of that's what they did.

We could all also just agree to keep them to a certain height. I know it's weird to do something as a community instead of just using the software to force compliance, but we could all just choose a sane height and stick to it.

I can't even do all those neat things that everyone else is doing...........yes I am jealous, but I think size should be a factor............ god knows how much we all love are pups and want to show them off.

I usually resize the signatures I have hosted on photobucket before I upload them. If using Blingee, they give you 3 or 4 choices to download. Just let me know what the forum decides and I'll follow the rules.

You are welcome Jo Ellen!

I honestly don't think that the sigs should be all that much larger than the avatars. Maybe post the large versions of sigs on profile pages...

I don't claim to understand the techical side of things, but I have to imagine that some of the larger signatures use a lot of bandwidth/space (??) and add to the expense of running the forum.

Adding: it has nothing to do with me liking or not liking signatures. As I said, I like 'em, and am not advocating them not being able to be on every post.

In that case most of the animated signatures will have to be recreated. It can certainly be done. I did download some of the animated sigs the same size as many avatars. In some instances there would be no point in having a sig. Once the size is decreased so much, you really cannot make out the details.

Just let me know what needs to be done. I think, but I'm not sure, I have many animated sigs in the smaller size hosted on my photobucket account.

I don't claim to know what I'm talking about here either, but I believe if the signature pics are linked from a site like Photobucket, that they don't use up bandwidth/space here.

As for my opinion on this thread topic.. I enjoy seeing everyone's signatures and don't even mind if they are somewhat larger (like my size, or Ambesi's, or MssJnnfer's) There are just some that use several pictures that take several scroll's to move past that its somewhat annoying. Even if they put multiple pictures ACROSS, instead of up and down, that would make a huge difference.

But I don't really care. If it stays the same, I'll deal with it. I'd actually prefer there not to be a set max by the forum, as on most other forums I've been on that have a set max, its TINY!!
