Greetings from the Delaware beaches! We are searching for our first GR puppy so I have been reading the forum for several months to learn as much as possible about Golden health concerns, nurture and nature, and to find a responsible breeder. Thanks to all who share their wisdom! I'm learning more than I could have imagined.

One breeder I really like was referred by a relative but I think we may be waiting forever as her reputation seems quite well-established and her pups are in high demand by repeat customers. We want a family pet for my kids (6 & 10) to grow and learn with. I am going to start reaching out for local club referrals to expand our search and continue researching this forum for knowledge.

We had to miss the Chesapeake GRC Annual Specialty Show in April because my daughter was sick. Luckily, I hadn't told her about it so she wasn't too disappointed. But I was! This weekend was the Golden Jubilee right here at home in Rehoboth/Dewey Beach and we got to meet lots of Goldens around town. It just reinforced my certainty this is the breed I love the most and worth waiting for.

I would greatly appreciate any referrals for Mid-Atlantic area (*DE, *MD, *PA, *NJ, NY, CT, VA, NC) breeders who keep up on all health clearances and stick to GRCA Code of ethics!!

Hi! So excited to see someone here from my neck of the woods! Off the top of my head, I was going to suggest Lycinan Golden's in Maryland. We go to class with a Lycinan girl, just love her. Also Delmarva Golden's which has always been highly spoken of on the forum. Delmarva has no litters now, but is taking names for a fall breeding. I'm sure you'll get lots of good recommendations from other members. We missed the jubilee this year...have gone in the past and it is a lot of fun. Good luck!! :smile2::smile2:

Welcome to the forum.

I'm from just outside the Newark Delaware area. I personally didn't find anything local that I liked but I would certainly steer you clear of Sunshine Hill Golden's in Delaware, below Dover I believe.

I've seen first hand with a couple people who had gotten pups with them that had horrendous experiences with them.

One such was a puppy that needed a $7k hip replacement at 6 months. She went back to them and told them what was going on and they got defensive. She explained she only would like the money spent for the dog back and they said out of the question. Apparently, on the back of the contract she said it stated that they don't guarantee hips and that was not explained and that she was on her own.

Not someone I would do business with. I did look at some of the past dogs on the site as there is nothing on current dogs there and it seems going all the way as far back as the 80's none of her dogs have had eyes, Hart or elbows done, only hips of all things.

Hello from another Delawarean! I'm up north in Newark. There aren't really a lot of breeders in our state that I would recommend, the only one that comes to mind is Sogni D'oro. They just had a litter, but it was a singleton and I think they'll be keeping her.

I have a Kalm Sea pup (south NJ - about an hour from where I live) and I'm very happy with him and his breeder. I train with a GoldenSoul dog (near Philly) who is wonderful. I've also heard good things about Lycinan and Delmarva, although I imagine Lycinan produces higher energy dogs than what would fit your needs.
