Hey all, just got back from Scout's first ever fun match! She took best of breed puppy and a sporting group 3--ok, ok, she was the only golden puppy and there were only three puppies in group--but hey, we did it!
I tried my hand at adult showmanship but didn't place. I think we did well anyway, considering it was her first time and I took a puppy in for showmanship--now I know that was perhaps not the best idea.
There was a little dog behind us and the lady kept making 'woosh' noises and Scout really liked that. Then, the class was really long and I began to run out of treats!
I met this really nice guy with an 21-month old lab. I was told that his lab was friendly so we were going to let the dogs greet each other--then his dog snarked at mine. :uhoh: I asked him if that had ever happened before, at first he said no, but then he admitted that it had but everyone tells him that it is hormonal. Uhh...
I was also really excited to find out about local handling classes--I had tried tracking some down before but was only able to find a private teacher. I can't wait to go, because I *know* we can do well if we get a chance to train with dogs around. That was our #1 problem--handlers had food, were making noises, there was a dog in front and behind her. She stands really well for me and gaits nicely--alone.
Oh, and I gave her a bath yesterday to get her ready for the fun match and decided that I need to start making more of an attempt to get those waves straighter. Well, they aren't perfectly straight but they are lying flat and so I feel pretty good about that. I even took pictures to document my learning curve
Well, there is another one tomorrow only bigger and this one will have obedience and agility going on as well. Can't wait!
