So, Scout got spayed about a week and a half ago. She did not come home with a cone and was doing great. I was telling everyone how great she was doing, no licking or itching. It was impossible though to keep her from jumping or running as she is just 6 months old. Well, Friday we got home from work (she is in the crate all day but we have someone take her out and walk and play with her 2 times a day) and I looked at her incision and 2 of the staples were missing and it was pretty red. To make a long story short, we took her to the vet Friday night and they gave her a cone to wear and antibiotics. She is the most unhappy puppy and just wants out of this cone. Does anyone else have experience with this? They told us we have to keep it on for 5 days...I don't know how that is possible...

When Misty was spayed I only put the cone on her when we were not home. How pitiful she looked. Someone told me that i could also put a tshirt on her to cover the incision..we didnt have a t shirt that fit her snug or I would have tried that....she hated that cone and looked soooo sad.

Could you loosely wrap an ace bandage around her midsection when you aren't home? Maximus was also pitiful with his cone on. He just sat around and whined/moaned/cried... the second it came off he was off for his ball. Silly dogs!

If you have a petco near you they make soft collars and ones that are like a blowup donut. If not I would say use the tshirt and tie a know in it to keep it tight on the covering the incision.

We used the No Bite collar for Penny.. was kind of like a neck brace.. she didn't seem to mind it. We also bought a soft " Comfy Cone " for Rusty to wear with the hot spots.. It is nice as you can fold it over, etc. You can leave it off as long as you are able to watch her. Poor baby.. We also had to keep them on leash for the duration.. She would run and jump in circles by the end of that time.. Especially where she was playing with Rusty we felt it best to be careful. Hugs to her.
