Salmonella

After near on 2 months of soft stool, diahrreah trips to the vet, anti biotics and Poo Samples we thought Shanks had finally gotten over his problems until today when the vet rang to say hes got salmonella...

In July he was diagnosed with Giardia and we had 2 weeks of antibiotics for that then he started getting red spots around his penis we then found out that the Giardia had caused an infection in his anal glands, we had cream and another 10 days of drugs for that.. We took a poop asmple in last week and the vets had said the Giardia and the anal glands had cleared up, but they ring today and now they have found salmonella..

Shanks is fine you wouldnt know he was sick but something has been niggling me for the last few weeks I kept thinking something else was wrong and kept looking for signs but found nothing.. Well until today..

Has anyone else experience salmonella in there Golden and apart from the drugs is there anything else that I can do to help his recovery...

Many Thanks....

My vet said I had the choice, I could either have more drugs or as hes fine let it run its course but I went for the drugs...
Poor Shanks - I think i would probably have gone the drug route as well , don't know if it will help but have a look at Dorwest Herbs Tree Bark Powder. I used to give it to both Ginny and Holly as they got older they had stomach problems, and recently when Quinn had a bout of colitis after eating an oak tree leaf he had some for a couple of days and it certainly warded off a trip to the vet for him. I also give both Quinn and Reeva a spoonful of probiotic fat free natural yoghurt.

Hope he soon gets the all clear
poor Shanks, hope he's feeling better soon
I work with Salmonella on a daily basis. Shanks could have gotten Salmonella from many different ways like liking bird droppings, to bad dog treats, or licking some kind of raw meat or meat package. The main thing to watch is that he does not get dehydrated while he is fighting off this bacteria. It will take several days to a week for this to run its course if all goes well.
