Trouble had her singleton puppy, a girl, yesterday morning. Late this afternoon, Bob found the baby dead in the whelping box. To all appearances, she had been a normal newborn, actively nursing and climbing all over her Mom.

Trouble was confused and upset at first, trying to cuddle her baby, and then searching for her in the whelping box and the house. She seems to have adjusted now.

I never realised how attached you could get to a puppy you hadn't even met yet.

I am so sorry Linda. Rest in Peace little one. I feel so sad for Trouble, as Lexi reacted the same way when she lost one from this last litter, and two from the first litter.
