Ok, so my husband and myself have been planning a vacation to the Smoky Mts. for about 8-9 months or so. I had found a kennel that offered daycare for our two boys. There were a couple of days that we had things we wanted to do and could not take the boys with us. The kennel came recommened by someone on this forum who used to live in Tennessee. (by no means is what happened - had anything to do with their recommendation).
So I had researched this kennel fully for a couple of months. When we dropped the boys off the kennel staff was friendly, the kennel was very clean and they encouraged us to come into the back to see where they were going to be. A good sign I thought. Anyways, on Tuesday we went white water rafting, we got back too late to pick the boys up because their was a couple who was late getting there because evidently the whole world revolved around them. It was supposed to be a two hour trip and ended up turning into a four hour trip. So, I called the kennel and they said no big deal that the boys could stay the night and we could pick them up in the morning. I was a upset by this but we were 45miles away and could not make it in time. My husband and myself were lost without our boys that entire night.
So fast forward to the next morning - the kennel opens up at 8am, we were there literally at 8:10. I pay the bill for the night and the lady said ok I will be right back , I'll go get Tanner and Cooper. She comes back not even 30seconds later and says to me "Cooper is gone" I about fell over. I said what - she says to me he got out. Ok your supposed to be a kennel and keep dogs safe. So I drop my things and immediatley start looking for our 7month old puppy. We are 400miles away from home and in a total panic. My husband and myself searched woods, got all cut up by bobwire fencing , ruined our clothes and I about broke my ankle - all I could think of was my little Cooper out there all alone and scared. At this point I am fuming. All I could think about was we would never find him and never would know what happened to him. Crying hysterically. I told my husband that if I could not find him I was going to jail - that we both could not go - But I was seriously going to hurt someone. I am not by nature a violent person BUT you are talking about one of my babies. Another thing that pissed me off was that they didn't seem to bothered by this.
We searched for over 4hours. I was hoarse from calling him. They , the county that we were in sent a small plane out to search the fields and woods looking for any sign of him. My husband was driving around and I was on foot. I let everyone I saw know what was going on. One lady stopped walking her dog and got into her car and started helping us look. The situation was looking desperate. Oh, we got two different stories as to how he got lost.
At one point in the search I looked up in the sky and asked my Tucker to help me find him. Fast forward to about 45minutes later, my husband picked me up and we started out again. We drove down this one road and all I could see was a lady standing there waving her arms. We pull up and SHE HAS MY BABY COOPER. I didn't even wait for the truck to stop. I don't even think my husband had it in park and he jumped out. This lady had heard us for hours calling his name - so she started watching out. Well she saw him go into someone's backyard and their dogs scared him - he ran and got under a bush and wouldn't come out. She grabbed her dog leash and got him to come out. She said he was so wiggly that she couldn't really read his tags. She finally could and was literally dialing his number when she heard us coming down her street. Funny thing is she is originally from Ohio and recognized our area code on his tag. I tried to give her money but she would not take it. We must have hugged her 100 times - we were crying as was she.
The only thing that mattered was getting my baby back. I can't even imagine not bringing him home. So, currently both boys have screaming diarrhea. But , the most important thing was that we brought him home. We ended our vacation early but I don't care - my baby came home with us.
Sorry this is so long. In closing never use SMOKY MOUNTAIN PET RESORT. I have been in the field of veterinary medicine for over 14years and have never lost a dog. I have written letters to the owner, BBB, and the city as to what type of business is being run there. I am sorry there are no excuses for what happened. NONE AT ALL.
Thank you Tucker for helping me find Cooper. Love ya buddy !
