Remy is done with his medication for the UTI and his levels are back to normal, but he is still going pee inside around once a day. During his UTI of course we were super understanding of this and didn't tell him "no!" like we normally would... we just took him straight outside. Do you think this taught him that it's okay to pee indoors? Now that it's over we are saying "no!" and taking him straight out... and he seems to be getting better about going to the door like he used to... it's just strange.

Remy definitely has received mixed messages as a result of the UTI. There are probably a couple of issues here that you may want to address.

First, there are probably remnants of his pee inside of your house. No matter how much you wipe it up the tiniest bit is enough for his super nose to key in on. Sometimes you can locate these spots with a black light but it it very difficult to be certain. You will need a product called "Nature's Miracle" (or something similar) that uses enzymes to break up the molecular signals that Remy detects and interprets as "OK to pee here".

Second, you may have to house train from square #1. Lots and lots of praise for going outside and possible crating him when you cannot keep your eyes glued to him. The second that he sniffs and looks like he needs to pee you have to really make sure that he knows that it's not OK inside.

He's old enough to learn fast and he's bright - he just needs to reset his priorities.
