Our 7-month old Golden boy destroyed 2 fluffy dog beds during his first few months so for a while he hasn't had one. Now that he's (hopefully) past the really intense puppy teething phase, we want to get him a nicer memory foam one, but know it has to be sturdy. Any "power chewer" dog bed brands out there? Any that have stood up to your super destroyer? Would love any recommendations.
I'd wait a few more months if you can - really get him beyond the chewing phase (which usually ends between 9 and 12 months). At that point, you should be able to get any kind of bed without risk of destruction. They can be pretty expensive, so better safe than sorry! :smile2:
Our Ellie Was never a chewer..But I was nervous when we finally had to put a dog bed or pad in the crate overnight and she is fine in this, it’s easy to clean also. Check it out to see if you’re interested and read the reviews they are awesome! https://www.primopads.com/
No such thing as a puppy proof bed. It's all just material and if a dog or puppy wants to chew it to see what's inside, they are just going to do so. You can try to use a bed in the living room or wherever you watch TV and put it away when you're not able to be there to supervise. As long as they do well with it that way, you can start to try for short periods in the crate for an hour or 2 at a time. Then gradually increase the time in the crate with it.
Let me start out by saying -- you're not alone! I dealt with this same problem with our puppy Buffy as early as 10 weeks. The thing that saved my life and sanity? A canvas duvet cover that I stuffed the two previously destroyed beds into. Here's the one I bought -- eConsumersUSA Luxurious Comfort Pet Dog Bed External Cover for Small and Large Dogs - COVER ONLY (36"x29" (34"x27"x3"), Canvas - Green) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KPFBX8M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_m2F7Bb1XYXDFX . I highly recommend it, she has not even been able to make the slightest dent and we got it about a month ago. Best of luck!
We got Rukie this https://www.chewy.com/frisco-steel-framed-elevated-pet-bed/dp/126781
It is only $16.99. He chewed a little spot, but we could replace the cover if needed. He really likes it. When it's cold we put a kind of sherpa material blanket on it and in the summer it's a little cooler because air can circulate under it.
Our shelter has been using Kuranda beds, and they get constant use by dogs of all shapes and sizes.
At home, I used to just get a big piece of fleece fabric from the fabric store and fold it a few times. Then you have a nice soft bed, that is pretty cheap, and can be washed easily.
Once Hazel was over 1 year, we got her the "dog couch" from LL Bean. It has held up very well and she sleeps in it every night.
