I just checked the price of Michaela's spay and got quite a shock! $327! This seems crazy. Is this the norm? I had Piper (yorkshire) spayed 18 months ago and it was less than this. They say the smaller dogs or more expensive. I was expecting it to be well over $200 but wow!

Thanks for letting me vent.

I live outside of Seattle, and that sounds just about right! When I had Lexi spayed about 5 months ago, her bill was $389.00 That included a $60.00 optional charge for pre-bloodwork before the surgery. Yes...I was shocked as well. I really didn't think it would be as much either.:uhoh:

I wish I had the option for a spay clinic but unfortunately I don't think there is anything like that around here (Halifax, NS, Canada). :( Michaela will definitely be coming home the same day!

wow, I've never paid that much for a spay. But I've never had an adult spayed either, there might be a difference. Both of mine cost around $140 I think. Sage was 6 months and Sydney was 5 months.

I know that a spay costs more than a neuter because it is more invasive, but $327 is outrageous. One of our friends just had their female lab spayed and they paid just a little under $200. I would probably be calling different vets to see if they all charge that much in your area!

OH MY GOSH..I would have loved to pay $327. Misty's spa was over $500 with the pre op blood work. I thought that was CRAZY, but I didnt know who else to call. I had it done at her vet. That was in Monterey CA. She was 6 months old, I dont remember her wieght, but they said to went by the weight of the dog.

Uh-oh, I sure don't like the sound of those prices. It's been several years since I've had anything spayed or neutered, but I never paid over $100. That definately seals the deal for Flip waiting until he's 2.

In Massachusetts I paid more than that for the a neutering with bloodwork. Mid 300's. No overnight stay.

MacKenzie was just spayed here outside of Kansas City, and it was around $170 with bloodwork and an overnight stay. I was pleasantly surprised.

Had my oldest girl done this fall and it was over $400 - I could have had it done for less elsewhere but I love the care my vet gives and how patient he is with me.

Spay for 51-100 lb female under 1 year is about $375 here, includes pre-anesthetic bloodwork, E-Collar, anti-inflammatory meds, pain meds, pain injection before coming home. Insanity, yes, but all local vets are about the same.

I live outside Seattle in the other direction and I paid $391.41 for Jamie's neuter but that did include $52.99 for his microchip. I knew it would be cheaper to go the spay/neuter clinic but I know our vet is struggling in the bad economy and I would have felt bad taking him somewhere else.

I did feel $25.00 was a lot for three pain pills (Duramaxx 75 mg) but I wanted to have them in case he needed them. Thankfully, he didn't.

Around here it's going to cost around $350 for a neuter for Duncan. I think that's crazy! I love my vet but this is nuts. When I had Sophie spayed at six month it was close to $300. I can find cheaper but what if something goes wrong? Sigh.
