Hi,
I am new to looking at OFA clearances and reading pedigree's. Finding a healthy puppy to adopt is a lot more challenging than I had anticipated. I want to be sure I am interpreting the information correctly. Below is a link to the puppy's mom and dad. To me it looks like the parents were not tested, but some of their family members were. It looks like someone on each side of the family has hip dysplasia. If so, would the puppy of the two parents below most likely have hip dysplasia as well? Thank you! Any recommendations for breeders around NH would also be helpful.

There is nothing good there that I can see. The dogs you posted have no clearances on OFA that I can find with the names you listed from K9Data. Their site sells dogs with limited AKC reg for $1200 which seems on the high end with no clearances and they sell pups with full registration for $1700!?!?! This is certainly no where near a reputable breeder.

The parents of Tobias of Wilmington both have an inadequate heart certification as they were done by practitioner and not a cardiologist. I don't even go any further back

The females Mother has an inadequate heart cert as well with Practitioner as well as what looks like failed hips with mild subluxation. The Dam has some good dogs behind her in the Malagold lines. Her name with Dewmist, Dewmist is a high end high volume kennel in Sweeden and My last dog I got From Malagold was a grandaughter to Dewmist Davenport a Sweedish import that I think was a Kyon Kennels dog that Connie bred to back in the early 2000's. With Good dogs behind them, I'm surprised the females mother also looks to have failed hips. It's possible it came from the females sire's side, which I haven't looked at yet.

Without even going more then 1 generation back, this is obviously a very poor breeder that bred 2 dogs with failed hips and then will sell people pups from these dogs with full registration!? Run the other way.

Oh my gosh this is about the most offensively deceptive breeder I have ever seen. :surprise:

It is easy to research the health certifications on these dogs, because that have none. She purposely chose to check mark the box in AKC Marketplace that says, “The applicable health screens have been performed on the sire and dam as recommended by the Parent Club for this breed.” That is a blatant falsehood.

Her website is prominently titled “AKC Championship Golden Retrievers. The currently advertised puppies have one great grand parent that has an AKC Championship. That is one dog out of fourteen 3 generation ancestors. The breeder didn’t own that dog and does nothing with her own dogs. Just trying to mislead buyers on quality of dogs by claiming a great grandparent’s accomplishments.

Then there is the blatant stealing of known kennel names.

The names in colors are well known kennel names of other respected breeders. Adding them into the registration names of her dogs is really dishonest and offensive. Those names indicate the dog has a direct tie to the owners of those kennels. It is like picking up a poster at the dollar store and signing it as a Picasso. The Dewmist, Edgehill and Nautilus names are stolen from dogs 6 generations back (about 30 years) from these puppies and Malagold 3 generations back. :--appalled:

Just so many ethical and honesty issues here.

The bottom two images show what health certifications should be in place when that box is checked and what they would look like on www.ofa.com.

Something weird going on here with the names.
Nautilus-Edgehill are old well known kennel names (look up Edgehill Nautilus Calypso Jo and his famous littermates and parents) and Dewmist-Malagold are two exceedingly famous kennels in Sweden and Michigan, respectively. She's trying to ride the coat tails and creating a real faux-pas with the names. Tacky. Look elsewhere the health clearances are crap anyways.

Wow. This is a super sketchy person- using names far back in a pedigree, belonging to active and ethical breeders, that's just stealing. And if one will steal a name they will do who knows what. Plus checking the 'all clearances' box on AKC- that's not a default it is deliberate. And a lie. And that little one-liner of Anney's is more important than name theft (though I do think that's indicative of a person's ethics)- 'the clearances are crap anyway'.

As far as good breeders in or near NH, thankfully there are MANY! Do a search of this forum for breeders + New England and/or breeders + state name (NH, VT, Maine) etc. and that should give you a good place to start.

Also - Just a heads up... If you are interested, there is a dog show at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds in Maine this weekend (see attached - I highlighted the goldens for you). Might be worth the trip, as most of the dogs showing there should be somewhat local and from reputable show breeders. If you go, be sure to ask someone where to buy a show catalog - The show catalog will list all the dogs in the show and their owners. Often the person handling the dog is NOT the owner/breeder (they're a professional hired to show the dog), so although they might be willing to talk to you, your best bet is just to note in the catalog what dogs or owners you'd like to investigate and do some research or reach out to the owner/breeder after the show.

If you can't make that particular show, I know that the Yankee Golden Retriever Club is holding its speciality in June on the north shore of MA. Or check www.akc.org (follow the events link) or InfoDog - The Dog Fancier's Complete Resource for information about AKC Dog Show Events, and Dog Products and Services for other shows coming up in New England.

Feel free to come back here and ask questions if you find a breeder or a breeding you'd like our input on. We're always happy to do a little sleuthing for you!

I looked at this breeder back in 2017 before going back with my current breeder Connie at Malagold. They looked pretty good and had some really nice dogs. They are Butternut Hill Goldens in Northern Vermont. Might be worth looking into, though they don't have many litters, I think 1 or 2 a year.

All her dogs appear to be CHIC current and older dogs had it previously and the few I checked out had Edgehill and Tangleloft backing some of her dogs as well.
